A Couple of Questions To register AKC, do their parents just have to be AKC? I guess I need to start checking into that if I register my babies. Do they have to meet size or color standards? They have white markings on their chest, does this mean something. I saw where someone said white on the paws usually would be a lighter coat? |
To register AKC, do their parents just have to be AKC? You will use akc registry if both parent are akc..akc only will reconize dogs if both are akc...if one is akc and the other is aca then you register throught aca..etc .. Do they have to meet size or color standards? They only have to be yorkies.. people bred tiny to large and register them. They have white markings on their chest, does this mean something? I saw where someone said white on the paws usually would be a lighter coat? The white usually fade i think as they get older. Not sure about the paw thing. If your not sure about colors use the parent colors black/tan..blue/gold etc..all puppy are born black and tan ( unless you have a red/chocolate ) .. Good Luck to You |
The mom and dad are both AKC, their color are called Blue and Gold. The puppies are all black & tan. Would I register the babies as blue and gold, too. |
Registration and white markings AKC registration - just both parents have to be AKC registration. They do want them to be both sound and to standard of the breed. You can know - I think- even register them online through AKC web site or by phone. The white markings on the chest or paws will fade over the months. It is a sign of a good quantity of coat. This statement is from the well know breeders - Wildweir Yorkies - Joan Gordan and Janet Bennett. Check out their book: The Complete Yorkshire Terrier. They state on page 205 -"This is a much looked for point (white star or small blaz located on the forechest in tan, or across the black and tan) as an indication that the puppy will probably be a good coat grower in quantity, though not necessarily quality. It is also an indication that there will be no nelanism, or over-supply of pigment. It is not unusual to find small white marks on one or more toes, or a fine white line on lower forejaw. These will not be visible as an adult." But they do state that "a large amount of white marks, on chest, paws, jaws or skull, places a Yorkie into tht tri-color classification and it is very wise to guard against this possibility." I do not think this later is your case. My pups have had the small white markings before and they have turned out so beautiful. |
Reply for Laura on registering color If both parents are blue and gold - I would always register the litter as blue and gold! You want blue and gold - preferred! |
Years ago when I started breeding I called AKC to ask how did I determine the colors of my puppies since all were black and tan.. I was told to register them with the colors of the mother. The only time it was REALLY important was if the dog were in the show ring or for breeding pruposes. The breeder could request a change of colors as registered but there was no guarantee it would happen.. |
