How do breeders get rid of giardia?
 
Marcel is on his 2nd round of meds for giardia - panacur first and now Metroniazole. I can't believe how pernicious giardia is!

If you're a breeder and/or keep a lot of yorkies, how on earth do you eliminate it with more than 1-2 dogs????

I've been lucky and have never dealt with Giardia but I would guess that the trick is keeping the effected dog totally separate from the rest of your kennel. Best of luck with it.

Yeah, I'm guessing that the sick dogs has to be kept away from the other dogs until he's all better. Breeders can't risk everyone getting sick, especially pregnant bitches or puppies.

I am guessing that you have to make sure none of the other dogs come in contact with the feces of the sick dog. If they potty outside, take the sick dog to an area that the others can't access. And be sure to clean up ALL dog poop.

my Bella is now on her third round of meds for it. I called and told her breeder that she had it, so I would bet his others do too. He didn't seem awfully concerned about it.:confused:

I've not experienced it, but I believe I've read that you have to clorox everything (be careful! put dogs somewhere else and don't spill on your carpets) Search the web, I've read a particularly good page of a woman's battle to get rid of it. I'll see if I can find it for you.

BTW, the solution is 4 oz clorox per 1 gallon of water, most kennels use this for recurring giardia, food bowls, floors, everything in contact during treatment everyday from what I'm reading.

i have never dealth with it at my house BUT, a person that got one of my puppies a long time ago, told me somee few weekss or a couple of months later that the puppy had it. None of my other dogss have ever had it so I don't know where that pup got it based on what I read, it can happen anywhere.

Sugar's Mom - it is so unbelievably pernicious! I had no idea how re-infectious it is. The shedded "cysts" can live a long time, so it seems almost impossible to get rid of. I mean, I can't vaccum the grass! Nor can I bleach my carpet!

That's it, guess we'll have to move to Tahiti or something....

i have heard it is very hard to get rid of. they can also get it from drinking contaminated water.
