Mothers Milk Hi, my girl had 4 healthy pups last Friday, but I have noticed that she isnt producing sufficient milk for her pups. Any advice as how to increase her milk production? Thanks kindly. |
i give mine(mothers) the 'whelping pudding" the whole time they are nursing until babies start to eat. The recipe is one large box of vanilla pudding 9cooking kind0, four cupss milk, four egg yolks, 1/2 cup sugar. cook slowley till it thickens. Most of them love this, if they don't feed it with a syringe. They only get this once a day. You can go with the smaller box of pudding and cut the rest of the recipe in half. In the mornings, I give a little wet food with about a tablespoon of cottage cheese mixed in. make sure you have her on puppy food. you can also see if she will take a little plain vanilla yogurt. Also I have given mine one teaspoon of dark beer but only ommediately after whelping. i'm sure there will be other suggestions for you that are just as good as mine. good luck. Are your babies gaining steadily ever day? if they are, she has enough milk |
Thanks for the information. I will try it today. Yes, the puppies are growing.. Kind Regards. |

I also feed the pudding and mine love it.I let them have all they want 2 times a day more if they are not eating.Mine will not touch this recipe until they have deliverd. |
Happy Jack Milkade I give mine Happy Jack Milkade, about 1 week prior to whelping, but you can give after too. I get it at the farmers co-op. I just put it in some food and I've never had problem with them not having enough good milk. just follow directions on bottle. It's a powder that you mix with water, stinks but it works!! I've used it for years. |
