Can my dog be having a false pregnancy? My male yorkie tried breeding (I thought unsuccessfully) with our female doberman mix about 6 weeks ago, this was her first heat cycle. Now the female's nipples are getting bigger and I can squeeze milk out of them, however she does not look pregnant, her abdomen is not enlarged. I suppose if she had one tiny yorkie puppy in her she might not show, I don't know? But what are the chances of her producing milk with a false pregancy? What would you call a Doberman / Yorkie cross - Dorkies? LOL New designer breed. :) Just joking, I really didn't think he could get the job done, if in fact he did, or I would have tried to keep them separate. He wouldn't have let me sleep, but I wouldn't be asking this question. Anyway, has anyone had any experience with something like this? |
Dorkies haha :lol tears:lol tears. but seriously i have no clue? honestly i wouldn't habe thought to keep them seperated either because she is such a large breed and yorkies are so small. |
If the female is the larger one they will sometimes lay down for the smaller male to get the job done. As for milk with a false pregnancy, yes, it is very common to have milk even with a false pregnancy. |
That's good to know, thanks for the info, I really hope that's all it is. How long might these symptoms last? |

Usually until a little after the pups (if she really had been pregnant) would have been born. |
I had a weeinie dog that would do this at every heat. |
My yorkie just had a false preganacy...she had milk but no pups... Dawn |
My Yorkie had a False Pregnancy on her 1st heat. She had ALL the symptoms of Pregnancy But with out the big belly. She even had the Vet fooled untill Xrays 5 days before due date. She let our New 8 wk old puppy at the time try to nurse on her. |
You all are great! Thanks so much for sharing your experiences. I have always had my females spayed before they reached the age of coming into heat, but I rescued this one from the alley, she had parvo, she was about 10 weeks old and nothing but skin and bones. I am still paying for the vet bill for this or I would have had her spayed already. :) |
