I don't know much about breeding, but I do know that you should probably learn a thing or thousand before you let your female mate. We all love Yorkies and would love to share them with our families, but if you have to ask where you can even find info on breeding, I don't think you're truly prepared for what breeding entails. There is a huge number of factors to consider and determine whether your Yorkie is fit to breed. But I also realize I likely won't deter you, so I suggest you pick up a lot of books and speak at length with experienced professional breeders then think it though. |
Welcome to YT You will find answers to all Your Yorkie ?? Here. But I will Warn you People who breed a don't do the research beforehand Tend to get into some heated talks with The Breeders and others here. Be open and understand that We just love Yorkies. |

I would kindly suggest that you stop trying to breed your girl until you know what you're doing. I believe that searching for and studying bloodlines is done BEFORE you breed, to make sure that you're producing healthy and standard puppies. If you do not know the basics about the signs of pregnancy, I am assuming you do not know the threats to your girl that could kill or injure her and the puppies. Please, please educate yourself before you put your yorkies in peril. I hope you'll think this through and get the advice you desperately need. Good luck. And I would looove to see pictures of your yorkies. :D |
To be honest, you should have learned about the qualities, lines, and tested your dogs before breeding. And also when breeding - you breed and then skip a day and breed again. I only breed twice, some go three times. When you let your male go so many times actually the sperm count goes down. I just got back from my all breed dog club meeting and our quest speaker was a vet that specializes in fertility and breeding. She even does insemanation and collection and freezing of seman. It was really interesting and all that is involved in it. That are some great books on the topic of breeding - one is "The Joy of Breeding YOur Own Show Dog." And Mary, I think is the one that knows a few more really good books, but I forget their titles. So you came to the right place and glad that you are asking for help. T. |
i hope you will be able to find a good mentor to be there for you when the babies are being delivered. it can be scary. go to your vet (if you don't have a mentor) and get some help. breeding books are great but yorkies are different. they are so small and if you don't know the signs of distress, you may loose her. regarding her bloodlines, go to akc (if she is registered) and get a copy of her pedigree. the pedigree will just tell you her line but if you don't know anything about the sire's and dams, and they are not champion breed, all it is going to do is tell your their names. most good breeders know their lines and can tell you about each sire and dam on the pedigree. go back to your breeder and see if they can tell you something about them or see if they have pictures, size, coat, etc.... good luck to you |
ohhhh and i forgot most importantly, find out the faughts. |
