Help! Will they stop fighting.
 
I have two female Yorkies. One has already gone thru her heat cycle (the older one). They got along fine. Now the younger one is in her heat cycle and displays a dominate attitude and growls at the older one and if I don't step in they fight. Will this stop after she is finished with her heat cycle?

They are both fighting for Alpha position. Best to seperate them. I have 2 spayed females that both sleep with me. They've been known to wake me up in the middle of the night, fighting....and I mean fighting....and it's just over who sleeps on my pillow. My intact females all get along. But, I've heard from others that the fighting usually stops when no one is in Season.

How about if the female always "attacks" the male,like if shes on the couch/bed and he gets up there also?My Reese does it everytime to Buddy,then she lets him up there with her.

She's just reinforcing her Alpha position.....however, you should discourage it.
Take the Alpha position back from her. Most of us tend not to do that in the beginning, we tend to be litter mates, instead of establishing ourselves as the Alpha.

Yep mardelin is right. All dogs need to no that we are the alphas, if they dont think this, all hell breaks lose. lol. Good luck and keep us updated.

I learned this with a pretty strong bullmastiff,we allowed him to pretty much "run the show"and now we have a heck of a time with him.But I wasnt sure with Reese cause I've only had her since January and this behavior just started 3 weeks ago!

My 2 spayed females play pretty rough at times. Pixie who is the newest is a real bully and picks on laid back Cali. Sometimes I have to step in and stop them but sometimes Cali goes back for more.

:animal-pa Hi,i have been gone for some time, glad to be back...I have the fighting problem with the boys ,father and son..when father wants to have a seat on a lap or couch, or if son looks the wrong way we have a fight. there have been times when they will not let go of one another,then the girls start to go at it too...well thats were the water bottle with half and half vinigerand water come in to play.....at one point my husband said spray them with the water so i took the sink facet and pulled it out and soaked them all in the kitchen....also son is fixed and one girl is fixed, I just keep telling them all 7 of them that i am ALPHA.....Any help with how to get them to let go of one another???????THANKS CATH54

I also have a problem with my dogs fighting. Our 7 yr. old spayed yorkie, Pebbles (aka, the Instigater) loves to start a fight with any of my other females especially my 11 yr. old mini daushand, Mollie. Mollie is not a fighter, but when pushed will fight back, it gets pretty bad at times as they don't want to let go and have actually hurt each other. She also wants to start up with my unspayed yorkie girls, both younger and a couple lbs. bigger than her. They try to ignore her, but she just follows them around and growls, just trying to get something going. I finally just set up a crate for her and when she starts acting up, she has to go in there and have her time out. In a way it's kind of funny to see, cause she is only about 5 lbs. and as cute as can be, but she thinks she's a pit bull or something!

I know what you mean! my yorkie puppy (almost 3 months) and my Maltese puppy (one year) playfight all the time. berk, my yorkie thinks that the maltese's tail is the best toy ever. and boy does my maltese hate it! be sure to give them seperation time.

I'm really getting worried about this fighting. We keep them apart as much as possible. If we are in the kitchen, one stays in a crate in the kitchen and the other is free. Then we switch to give the female in the crate equal time out of the crate. At night they sleep in their crates. They were sleeping with us before this fighting started and we decided it would be best if each sleep in their own crate. Last night in the kitchen before one got crated they got into a terrible fight. I tried to break up the fight with a spray bottle (forget that) and finally my husband and I had to pull them apart and crate one. I've tried to be "Alpha" by saying in a stern voice "No" and using the water bottle if the growling starts. It doesn't really work. Saturday will be three weeks since the younger female went into heat. I thought they might start to like each other by now, but is worse than ever. I love both these girls and would be heartbroken if I had to part with either one. Please tell me this is going to get better.

I agree with Mardelin. We have 4 females and when they started it, I would have my husband grab the one being attacked and I would grab the aggresser, lay her on her side, put my face in her neck and growl loudly and say 'No!' and continue holding her down until she quits struggling to get up. (It is very important that you don't let her up until she submits to you.) Now when they even look like they'd like to fight, all I have to do is use my 'alpha' tone and say 'No'... It worked for me... maybe for you. I also noticed that it happens more often when one is in heat. But it really doesn't matter... You must take the alpha position and do it soon... This will not push their affection away from you by doing this. Instead the affection should become stronger and deeper between you and your baby.
