Question regarding cost... Is it appropriate to make an offer regarding the price of a pup. Like if the breeder asks 1000 offering 900? Just curious :) Thanks Ladies! :) |
I see nothing wrong with it. You never know if you don't ask. I personally would prefer to have somone make an offer, than to just walk away. |
I have tried to make offers in the past; has never worked:confused: , but no harm trying;) |
Why not, if it saves you some money go for it |
I had one breeder tell me they would not go lower their price was firm. The breeder that I got Autumn from wanted $1000 for her but she was almost 5 months old. I told them I would give the $800 cash or I would not be able to take her. I got her. I would of paid way more then what they were asking for her (she would have been worth every penny). Give it a shot you have nothing to lose.:p |
i, too, would rather have someone make mee an offer, if it is reasonable, than to walk away. if someone were to offer $400. on a pup I have for 1,000., I would probably turn it down. But if it were say a couple hundred below what I am asking, I just might take it. Might not either. |
There is nothing wrong with making an offer. However, if you are bartering on the price of my pups, you probably won't even be considered for one. I will also add, it also depends on the breeder. Show/Breeders I wouldn't even consider it. Never had it happen to me, since my pups always have preapproved homes, way before the breeding takes place and prespective new families know up front what they are worth and their fee is always paid for in advance of them taking their pup home. |
I also do not see anything wrong with offering a lower price, however being a breeder, if I just had a litter of pups and placed them up for adoption and had someone offer me less, I don't know if I'd take anything lower. Now if I had them up for adoption for some time and then someone offered a different price, at that time I may consider it. It would just depend. I have many people say to me ....(relatives, friends...etc...) Oh you'll give me a discount, oh you'll just give me a pup....and so on. Well no I wont! :) Many don't realize that there are ALOT of costs in raising a litter, from the whelping, to the age when they are ready to go. So yes, I may concider it at some point, but then again, it would depend on the screening process with the person, and so on. Just my 2 cents :) |

My feeling is that if you are bartering on price, you can't affored it and maybe comprise on their medical care. You are questioning my integrity and the value of my pups. But, again, it's a moot point for me since my pups are all spoken for prior to their being whelped. |

To the OP - It never hurts to ask though, the worst that can happen is they will say no :) |

Yes, I would. Don't you think a person like myself would want to test you? I don't mean personally you........but my future breeder? If you go much lower-don't you think that turns me off? I have intergrity as a buyer too.........and hopefully have been educated and know what I want in a pup. I will test you and pose as an uneducated buyer. Personally, I wouldn't want you to lower the price. If came to YOU, first-you are in my price range and secondly I better be prepared to answer all your questions as you screen me. If you don't do your job to screen-me..........I don't want to buy from you period. Now, have I done this before? Absolutely! Took 2 years to find my yorkie-even though I was just looking for a pet. Take it a step further............... When I first joined, A seller PMed me about her litter..........we talked via email for a while. Asking price 1800 for a female. She asked what I did for a living.........I said "I'm a nurse".........then-bingo, I was approved. Now, look at the lack of common sense......read my screename (Jessy RN to be). Where is the screening? ;) When I was ready to buy.......I had $$ saved for the pup, all the supplies plus $$ for vet expenses etc. I don't own a home, but I had references for you to call and see I am allowed to have pets and wondeful references. I had vet references from my poodle and cat. I had references from the humane society where I volunteer. I am medium-class.......but was able to prove I could actually afford the dog. Now, if you screened me solely on what I do for a living (student plus part-time job).........you'd miss a wonderful home for your pup. |

Not all prespective new families have done their home work and are prepared as you .....most just want a yorkie and will do anything to obtain one....yes, even bartering.....they have no clue on quality, so they fail to know how to proceed on their search. Believe me I've had prespective buyers throw trick questions at me. But, I in turn tell all of them, you contacted me and I am honored. This is not a purchase you should make easily. You should shop around, feel comfortable with your breeder. So, whether you chose to take my pup or not, I have to feel confident that I have educated you and assisted you in making the best decision and in your search |

Educating yourself minimally is a must. |
See, my situation isn't really critical I guess you could say. I was just curious. I didn't know if it was something, like a car, where you barter price and that is just something acceptable. I have been searching and searching for a breeder and I believe that I have finally found the right one! The last thing i want her to feel, is that I am questioning the integrity of her pups! I just didn't know ! :) |
