pregnant? Need help and answers I have a 2yr.old yorkie, she will be 3 on May 1. My question, she was in heat a few weeks ago, and my male got to her, I was not sure what to do, I did want her to have pups with my male, but I was scared of the pain and I didnt want anything to happen to her. she is I say 6 and 1/2 too 7 pounds. To me thats too small, thats why I was scared. But on April 1 he got her, my husband seen them, when he got walked in the room he got off her and they both ran under the bed, now they were together alone about 15 or 20 min. But they didnt tie, does that have to happen for it too work? Or I should say I didnt see them tie. what I should I have to look for to see if she is with pups, besides waiting if she get's bigger. I was told to come here for the best advice. Any is welcome. :) |
I dont think they have to tie to get pregnant. If he entered her she could be pregnant. She is plenty big enough to breed. I wouldnt be worried about her size |

The dogs don't have to tie in order for pregnancy to occur. You say they were together unsupervised for 20 min? They had plenty of time to tie before your husband came in and found them. 7 pounds should be the maximum weight for a Yorkie, so technically she is not too small breed. The fact that your male is larger puts a different spin on things however. Any ethical and knowledgeable breeder will tell you that is a no-no and could easily put the life of the female at risk. If you are very concerned about the pregnancy, you could have her spayed now to be safe. I am suspecting you will not want to do that however so I would advise you take both of your dogs to a vet for an opinion on if the pregnancy can be carried safely. Also, you will need to find and experienced breeder in your area to work with on preparing for her delivery should you opt to take that route. |
he's about 11 or 12. and I did talk to my vet, she said that yorkies are not in a high risk as pugs and chihuahua's. I plan on having her spayed, this was the only time that he had any alone time with her. only on that day. all the risk and the fact that she's more like my daughter than my pet, I love her dearly and if there is any kind of danger for her how can I ever forgive myself. All I need is some encouraging words of wisdom, and anything that will help of course. |
Well, I know I will may get slammed for this and I am not trying to act as if I am more informed that your vet, but from everything I know and have learned, that is a HUGE difference of size in regards to breeding. :( There are LOTS of breeders on this site alone--experts on the Yorkie breed and people who have been breeding them for many years who will tell you the same. Just remember, there are proper courses of action and your girl is not 'doomed' so don't think of it that way. I know you only want what is best for her.:) |

All I can tell you is my opinion and like I said, from everything I know, that is a BIG size difference. Does that mean a whelp will absolutely be impossible? No, not impossible. You have to decide how big a risk you are willing to take here. My personal opinion would be to have her spayed, thus aborting any possible pregnancy, but that is just me. You just have to realize, whatever your decision, this is pretty much a time sensitive issue. Good luck! |
i need to ask a question....what is the structure of the female compared to the male? when we talk lbs, it is hard to determine the stucture of the yorkie. i have seen 10lb yorkies that are just fat but same structure size as a 6lb. i have seen yorkies that look small but once i pick them up, geeez they feel like they weigh a ton. i know we talk lbs all of the time here but i think we need to look at the structure as well. |
I know that structure is important to consider as well, but this is a male that is TWICE the size of the female...TWICE that size, not a pound or two.:( Would structure be able to account for that much of a size difference? Hmmm... |

Hi there, well Lillie is going to the vet soon along with kiyou, but I have been talking with a breeder and she gave me very good talk and I feel much better, I just want to say thank you to all and Iwill keep you up to date. |
