New here, can someone help please? Hi, my first post here, so I am new to the forum.I have also asked this on another thread but no-one has helped Our Yorkie was mated about 6 weeks ago, she was put to a small stud and the breeder confirmed that it looked like she took ok. Now we are confused as to whether she is pregnant or not, her hind quarter looks a little larger and her teats or larger than before, but no sign of movement inside and her temperament seems the same, she is still over active and her diet doesn't seem to have changed. Could it be possible that she may be carrying one pup but she is hiding it well? When we asked the vet they said that they couldn't tell for sure, but offered us an ultra sound for ?60!!! Thanks in advance. |
At 6 weeks it might still not be visible, expecially if she is only carrying one. Do you have a scale to weigh her. You might want to get one. If you are planning to breed thenf you will need one any way to weigh the puppies. The first that I noticed on my girl is she was getting bulgy around the middle, she no longer dented in behind her ribs. We just had x rays this morning, she is carrying 2. |
More than likely, it is too early to tell. You generally don't start getting alot of movement until about a week or so before the whelp. In any case, you should have an ultra sound or x-ray done around day 50...regardless of price. This will allow the vet to estimate if the pups are a size that they can be delivered naturally, or be your indication ahead of time if a c-section may be needed. If you are lucky, you will be able to tell at that time how many she is carrying, although it isn't 100% accurate there. |

made a mistake with date sorry! Thanks for your reply. I actually got the date wrong, she is actually DUE next week, we can see a slight bump but nothing more would her temperament be different with only a week or so to go, or could she carry right till birth without showing signs? Thanks again. |
....in addition .... her cover date was Feb 13th and again on 15th Feb, if this helps. Thanks |
whelping Do you see any clear, sticky discharge...that is a positive sign of pregnancy. At 8 weeks you really should be able to lay her on her back and see the pup/pups move about..if you could post a belly picture, we could no doubt tell you...best wishes |
You should be able to see them moving by now. I would definately take her back to the vet to have the ultra sound done ASAP. You need to know if she is expecting...watining until she is actually delivering is not a good ides. |
Thanks 3 Attachment(s) Hope you can see the pic ok. If it helps the father was tiny and weighed only 3 lbs, less than half the size of our Shelly |
You should be able to tell by the end of her 5th week. Stand her on your lap, with her back against you. Look down towards the bottom of her tummy close to her private area....is it poochy..... |
2 Attachment(s) She definitely does not look pregnant to me. she dents in at the end of her ribs. Here is a picture of Ollie at day 50 Attachment 109497 Attachment 109498 |
Thanks Thank you we appreciate your feedback, we didn't really know what to look for. Now we know. Cheers. |
