Up late tonight.... Lily scared me tonight. I think she's starting to show some signs of getting low on calcium. I'm going to call my vet in the morning to make sure that's what may be starting to happen with her....... |
or it could be that she's just extremely tired..... this is taking a lot out of her...... |
it sounds like she is wore out & she needs to recooperate a bit !! :D |

sending my wishes your way! |
Sorry I worried everyone last night! I was very tired (and still am) and just needed to post my worries aloud. The only thing she's doing that worries me is panting alot. She is eating fine and walking around fine and is very aware. I just didn't like that she was panting so much, but I called the vet and she said that panting is okay and it's just because she's tired. She told me to keep giving her the soft and dry puppy food I bought for her. I think I just need to offer to feed her more often. I didn't realize I had to feed her a LOT right now. I also think I need to relax a bit..... She's doing well today and so are the litle ones....:) |

Absolutely, increase her meals....I feed about 5 or 6 meals a day....have it down whenever her plate is empty....essential to milk production.....yes, she's tired so you need to keep her energy up. |

And go get some rest -- that's to Lily also. It's just like the advice you get when you have a baby, it's okay to let little chores go, more important to get the rest you need while you can get it. Never know what time you'll need to be up with Momma and puppies. Also can't critize how attentive and supportive your being for Lily and pups. Great job! :) |

She had been panting for two hours straight. I called my friend who is a vet tech and she suggested I feed her more soft puppy food. I guess I didn't know that it was okay to feed her at 2am or something. I normally wouldn't do that, but the food did give her more energy (duh!). She is doing tons better today. I am going to feed her about every 3 hours or so. Since I'm new at this, I didn't realize I had probably just gone too long without giving her a meal. She hadn't wanted anything until 2am except just the goats milk recipe given to me by Mardelin. I'm just going to be more vigilant today and keep to a solid schedule for feedings. She is walking around and eating fine. She is still panting some, but once we got the pups alseep, she wanted to go outside to run around for a bit, so she's fine. I think on top of being hungry that late, she was just exhausted (and for good reason). :) |
awww I hope she is ok, good luck tomorrow |
How is she today?Better I hope! |
GOOD LUCK !! This is why I could never breed....I'd be a puddle on the floor and thinking the worst...I couldn't bear to see mine in distress....Is she feeling better ?? |
Thanks so much to everyone for their concern! :ghug: Lily is doing well. She has been eating about every 3 hours and is getting spoiled with all this soft food! :p She's been going outside everyday to run for a bit, but always wants to come in to check on babies. At night, she still pants a lot. I took the pups in today to get dew claws removed and tails docked. While I was there, I went ahead and had the vet check her calcium level, just in case. The vet called me and told me her calcium is perfect. She thinks she's just panting alot because she's hot, which is understandable. I'd be hot too with 5 little warm bodies constantly on me at all times when I'm trying to sleep. I think I"m a bit overprotective of Lily, but she's my baby and I don't want anything bad to happen to her! :) But, yeah, breeding is not easy! I am definitely NOT going to do this again and don't recommend it to anyone! OH and all the pups are doing okay. They've just been sleeping alot today and for good reason..... :) |
So glad everything is going well! Keep up the great job! |
:) Great glad to hear!Thank you for the update!Hope everything continues to go good!! |

I'm so glad to hear that she's doing better. The panting is very normal after delivery. They just get hot. They've got all their body heat, plus the heat from the puppies and the heat lamp or heating pad you've got her with. Always make sure her water is full too. Also, I don't understand feeding meals after they deliver.... why not just keep food available at all times? Then it's not a worry. I give my girls a bowl of cottage cheese every day after they deliver for extra calcium. |

Well, Lily is eating soft puppy food right now. If I left it out all day so she can free feed, then my other little stinker, Dexter, would gobble it all up before Lily even had a chance! ;) Not to mention soft food gets kinda gross if left out..... So yeah, that's why I do what I do. :) |
