getting discouraged? I feel discouraged about getting started with breeding. Ive been in contact with a show breeder that has been very very sweet in helping me out with lines and kennels, but I just feel like I'm never going to be able to get a quality bitch to start out with. I don't want to just get some ol' pup that's not worth breeding, but I haven't had any experience, so all the breeders of good lines aren't going to sell me a bitch!! Do you breeders ever get discouraged and wonder why on earth you ever wanted to do this in the first place? Am I just down and need to get back on my feet? Maybe breeding just won't be right for me and I just need to find a Yorkie to be a companion...... |
Don't get discouraged. There are some breeders that are willing to help you get started. You just have to find them. You might try www.amazingyorkies.com She has some nice lines...;) |
It will take a VERY ling time to get a good founation bitch. Majority of quality breeders will be very leery and reluctant to let one of their girls go to someone who plans to breed. I bought my first yorkie (for pet) 5 years ago, a nother a year later. Then I decided I wanted to raise yorkies...still no more yorkies since my first two pets. I talk with breeder see what they want, I am busy with my life and trying to set it up so that raising yorkies will fit with my lifestyle (I changed careers and became a dog groomer so my pets can come to work with me and I own my own salon so I set my hours, decide when to come to work). Someday I know there will be a breeder who is willing to part with a yorkie that will be show quality (I feel for my breeding program I want finished yorkies in the show ring) and willing to let a novice have a chance. It will take time, my quest has been going for 4 years, I want to know everything I can, be prepared. I never want to run into a problem and look back and think, If only I was more prepared, informed, etc. You will find that yorkie, one for a pet is a great start. For me there is nothing like them, they have a personality of their own, a big dog in a little body! Talk openly with breeders you are interested in, tell them what you want and ask them what they would want to see you do to acheive a puppy from them. Good luck, it will be worth the patience and hard work. |
