is mom yorkie/dad lhasas mix possible? i'm getting a female yorkie and i already have a lhasas apsos male. i already know there are mixed yorkie/lhasas mixes, but mostly, the mom is a lhasas and the dad is a yorkie. i was wondering if puppies can be made from a yorkie mom and a lhasas dad. if anyone has a dog like that or know for a fact, please reply. |
No offense but we need to stop experimenting with the animals. This is why there is a lot of congenital diseases among dogs and everytime more and more new diseases are coming. Just let them breed with its own. |
clam down. i'm not trying to breed them. i'm not a breeder. i'm just getting a female yorkie and already have a male lhasas and wanted to know if they do mate. |
If they are not altered, of course they CAN mate, but it does not mean that they should. So to prevent unwanted pregnancy, please neuter/spay. Lhasa apso's are larger than yorkies. It's dangerous for a female to be bred with a larger male regardless of the type of breed, so please let your female yorkie's health and well-being be the most important thing...She could die if having puppies from a larger dog. |

If as you say you don't want to breed or be a breeder the responsible thing to do is get your dogs spayed and neutered. It's the kindest thing you can do for them. As far as your "clam up" comment you need to realize you are are dealing with the integrity of the breed we all love and so many of us are very passionate about the subject of mixing breeds. Is there anything wrong with a mixed breed dog? No, but there are enough puppies that are the result of accidents that more than fill the quota in the world already so please think before you add to that number. |
breed Please don't cross breed, there are too many unwanted dogs. what re you going to do with them? Not to many people want to buy cross breeds.. |
Can they mate? Of course, any unaltered male and unaltered female can mate. Should they mate? No, for reasons already mentioned...size difference aside, purposely mixing breeds is never a good idea in my opinion and I have yet to run accross anyone who can offer a good, valid reason for doing so. But I am sure these are not your intentions and you are just getting the facts so that you can make neccesary arrangements to prevent anything that may be unwanted.:) Lots of good information here. Congrats on getting your new furry friend and welcome to YT!:) :) |
thanks for all the advice.. and just to get the record straight, i'm not trying to mix breed or breed at all. i'm just gonna have those two type of dogs and i believe neutering/spaying a dog is unnatural and alters a part of who they are. |
Well, it's good to know that you're not going to try to breed them :) As it could be very dangerous for your female. You should keep them separated and with a diaper on the female while in heat, at the very least. Good luck, and I pray that your two dogs do not have an accidental breeding for your female's sake and the puppies' sake. |
yes it can be done no it shouldnt be mixed breeds are a dime a dozen and from accidents and irresponsible owners. theres way too many mixed breeds in the world just go visit a pound or shelter. please have them both fixed. |
LOL Clam down ?? Did you mean calm down ?? I didn't see anyone answer that sounded upset.... I have to agree with everyone - your post sounded like you want to breed them and I think that's why people responded the way they did....if neither is fixed - you're just asking for trouble. |

did you know that "Spaying and neutering can reduce the risk of cancer. Dogs spayed before the first heat cycle have only half the risk of mammary carcinoma of those spayed after the first but before the second heat cycle. Dogs spayed after the fifth heat cycle or never spayed have the highest risk of mammary cancer. Testicular carcinomas or tumors in dogs are common, but having your dog neutered eliminates that risk. Fortunately, testicular cancer rarely spreads in dogs, unlike in human beings, so treatment has a high success rate." |
