Another Question about Registering This may get confusing. A friend of mine wants to get a puppy who is ACA registered. The Sire and the Dam are ACA registered but everyone in their lineage is AKC registered. The breeder is not forthcoming about registering the Sire and Dam with AKC even though she (the breeder) claims they can be. She is delegating the responsibility to my friend. My question is can she (my friend) initiate the parents of the pup's registration to AKC so that she can get the puppy AKC or is the breeder the only one to initiate the registration on all sides (Sire, Dam and Puppy)? |
The owner of sire and dam of the puppy your friend is interested in would be the only one able to AKC register sire and dam and the breeder would have to AKC register the litter. If the grandparents to these puppies are AKC registered, the owner of the sire and dam to the puppies may be unwilling to admit to any AKC registration of sire and dam because they may have been sold to her on limited registration meaning they were not to be used for breeding. If that is the case any offspring will not be registrable with AKC and that sire and dam were not to be used for breeding. I have no idea why else the owner of sire and dam would not register them with AKC as the cost is minimal and so is the cost of litter registration. |
