Breeding The First Heat Hi everyone I am new to this forum and have a question? Has anyone on here bred there bitch the first heat cycle? |
No, females should not be bred until at least their second cycle. Why do you ask? BTW., welcome to YT. |
I have heard to not breed on the 1st Heat Cycle. The 1st heat can come anytime from 6 months on, so breeding at this age is def. NOT a good idea. It is like babies having babies basically. They aren't emotionally prepared to care for the pups at this age. It is best to wait until they are a few years old from what I've heard. This of course is only my opinion. |
I agree, first heat breeding is too young. Best to wait. |
no reputable breeder would breed a bitch her first heat UNLESS she is 18 months old when she has it. then it is okay. |
Bitches should not be bred before their 2nd heat or before they are at least 18 months of age, whichever comes first. |
My female is in heat and was just curious. I now you should wait until the 2nd heat but I guess I am just impatient:) |

I very well understand your impatience...but, it's best to do what is best for the female....she isn't ready physically or mentally to be bred and such an early age. Most of the time my females aren't bred until their 3rd cycle....since they're pretty much in the show ring, obtaining their Championship until then.... |
Welcome to YT. :welcome4: No responsible breeder of any breed would risk the health and well being of their female by breeding too early. We have lots of responsible breeders right on YT. You'll get lots of wonderful advice |

I had no intention of breeding the 1st heat but my female didn't come into her 1st heat until she was 20 months old. The vet said it would be fine to breed her since she was older. However if she had been younger I would never have bred her. |
