Temperature taking question Mom is now in her 8th week. I'm suppose to begin taking her temp last night. I took it with a digital thermometer and it read 99.1. I thought that could be wrong because she had just had a bath and that could throw it off. But again this morning it read 99.2.??????? Am I suppose to take her temp with a regular thermometer and not a digital? This is weird. |
temp A digital is best..I would say she is ready if it is down for 24 hrs...not all go 63days. |

I recently saw an ear thermomoter at petco. Any experience with that at all? Wonder if it would work as well. |

The week before they whelp, their temp can be pretty low, some bitches go within the lower 99 degrees in my experience. She's probably just right for pre-whelping. You'll see as you start to monitor and record, you'll find her baseline. Then'll she'll probably drop to the lower 98 degrees and she'll whelp next week, we hope. |

Mine fluctuate between 99.1 and 99.2 (in the mornings it seems to be lowest for me) to 100.5 the week before. They like to keep me on pins and needles. Sounds like you're doing good, keeping an eye out, you never know. |
I had a bit of a scare this week seems Shimmer's temp was 97 and she was only on day 56. So with the suggestion of a friend I bought a new thermometer and sure enough we are back up to 99. Shimmer has at least 4 babies and she is so big I just need her to hold tight a few more days if she can. She is having a big dinner at the moment so I think we are good for another day.....Today is day 58 |
wow, that would be a scare. Good luck with you upcoming whelping, hopefully she'll hold out a few more days. |

Yes it sounds like we are , this is the most exciting time waiting for puppies. My girl is so big she can hardly walk. Tonight her temp is 99.9 and she had dinner so I think we will be getting some sleep tonight. She comes to bed with me just to make sure she is safe. |

2 Attachment(s) Hi dray, Does this look familiar? Here's Koko in her favorite sleeping position. (A little ticked off at me for disturbing her sleep)(so moody now-a-days, :yelrotflm ). You can actually see the kids tossing and turning. Aloha LOL, you beat me to the tummy pic post. |
