Show us your yorkie home! I started this thread so we can share pictures & ideas on housing our little babies. IM in the process of turning my attached garage into a yorkie home/play area. I have a habit of changing my mind every other week on layouts & decorating! So my hubby said what ever I decide has to stay for a while! so I want to make sure I set everything up right. But I need ideas. I have seen a great set up of a out building lately at another breeders home that I will be using some ideas from but wanted to see if I could add more to them. also a very nice set up on luvdorkyyorkies post! |
HI Marie, Best of luck on your yorkie area!! Sounds like getting yours together would be much easier then what we did. It was a detached garage, needed tons of work, and it would have been less expensive to just build from the ground up!! Hindsight is 20/20 you know. |

Kelly, Your place is so nice I hope mine turns out that good! I wish I had outbuildings on my property that I can redo. My dream is to have a set up something like yours with fencing we have 28 acres and no fencing my hubby fenced in a 1/2 acre for my our mastiffs to run and play but I need to have a safe place for my yorkies. IM trying to get an idea on building a play area with a building outside with a cover to protect them from chicken hawks, etc. We are hoping to be able to build a nice building one day but money is tight. What was your cost on plumbing and styptic? |

OMG! the pic's are nice (THANK YOU!). Is this in your home/garage? do you have a problem with them jumping over when ones in heat? Please give more info. my husband is gonna kill me! My head is spinning with so many ideas:) do they have a doggie door each? the way my garage is it leads into the driveway so i wouldn't be able to have doggie doors :( |
This room is right off my living room..I have had no problem wth them jumping over the pens. I was trying to find some pics of the outside area. Hubby made me a 25 ft x 12 ft covered/enclosed outside pen for play to keep anything from getting to them...Plus they also have a huge fenced in yard area to play in. We are getting ready to do some work on it enclosed pen..because the wind messed up some of the roof.. |
The panels I can take out as needed to make areas larger. There is a doggie dog that leads out to a deck, a small open area then to the enclosed pen. In the small open area it has a door that leads out to a big fenced in back yard. |
Thank you so much for all your info! What did you use for the walls and floors? |
Wow, both those areas are so nice. |
That room is a concrete add on ..that was called the sun porch. On the floor we put down ..is what they call a no lay floor. Over that on the floor in the pen area ..we use what they call Freezer Board. It's a thin sheet of tuff plastic with small bumpies so the dog don't slide around on it. The walls were done in shower board. (the type that goes inside tub showers). Then everything was sealed with caulk. Both are easy to wash down. |

Everyone's situations are different, and start with your dream and take notes on your thoughts. I forget the good stuff sometimes, and wish I would have wrote it down the first time. Drainage system and septic were pretty expensive, 2,000 or so, with no labor costs. You just have to look at your own home and place and see what works for you. Set a goal and stick to it andhave lots of patience. ( I dont have much) but I learned some. Much luck to you! Yorkiegirl's set up is very nice too! Looks great. Attractive, clean and neat. Well thought out. WTG. Here is the outside of our kennel I just took. I only mop the inside because it does not have drainage in the floor, just for the sink only. |
1 Attachment(s) Omg! IM going to get in trouble with hubby! :( you guys have great layouts! You mentioned inside you mop the floors? What do you do on the outside (hose it down)? I think I need to win the lotto! Got 6 kids and spend any extra $ on my dogs. I have the land 28 acres (with no outbuildings and no $$). the building in front by the road is a 1 1/2 car garage and loaded to the ceiling with my husbands roofing equipment also IM afraid to put any dogs there in fear of someone stealing them. :( The barn in the pic is to far and the roof now is trashed plus it needs major work on the inside. the garage that\'s attached to our home is a better place but I would love to make that into our family room. For now I am going to use it for the dogs and try to invest on items I could easily move to a new building whenever we get one. Outbuildings are so expensive out here! luvdorkyyorkies I love your building! I dream all the time but they never come true!:( |
