Good news on babies!! The little girl finally latched on and is nursing now! What a relief!! Now, I have one more boy left to figure it out. He fights and fights and fights. He even fights is when I try to feed him. But his belly isn't full like the others', so I'm sure he isn't nursing. I know he will catch on. The girl was the one I was most concerned about, since she was the smallest. |
pup One by one..fingers crossed. Can you tube feed him? If not, why not run him by the vet tomorrow an dlet them fill him up and show you..then you will be 100% sure he is full...no guessing,..keep an eye on the wee girl as you are doing... |
I'm so glad to hear she is improving. I was really worried!! I hope the boy figures out how to nurse better. He may not have strong suction yet. |

I do get about 1.5 cc of milk down him about every 3 hours or so. And of course, before I feed, I try to get him to nurse first. I just want him to do it the natural way, which I know is best. He does not suck on the bottle. I have to squeeze the milk out and watch him swallow each time. |
as a safe guard I would use nutridrops, give them a very small amount daily...if theyre not gaining as fast as you would like it will keep them from fading or losing weight.... http://www.revivalanimal.com/product...cd2=1173977814 |
Thank you, Kim. I will do that. |
Hows your boy doing? I took mine to the vet to be shown how to tube feed because my tiny one didn't have the strength to suck. I knew she was fading and she was going to die if I didn't learn this (this was my gut). It was very easy and gave me peace of mind knowing I was doing everything I could. We had been bottling, but she wasn't getting much. After just a few feedings I got to watch her get stronger and (all along I had her on mom trying to nurse too) soon she began to fight her littermates for her teat. It was over the weekend, she began sucking strongly. Just wanted you to know my experience with a little one and tube feeding Best thoughts for your little guy, |
I'm glad they are catching on. Keep trying and it will work. |
Susan123, All 5 pups are now nursing. The last little boy began nursing about 2:30am this morning, and they "bellied up at the bar" all day today. I occasionally take the larger pups off mom and put them in a separate box, so that the smaller babes can eat without having to fight for space. I'm so thankful that Gracie is FULL of milk. She has ample to go around the table! |
I'm happy to hear that they are all nursing. I'm hoping to see pictures soon. |
litter Well, that was certainly a long, hard road..may all your problems be over... |
That's wonderful! I'd put the little ones on the choice teats first when it's time time nurse then bring the big boy/ girls after the small ones get a good little meal. I'm so happy for you to hear everyone's catching on. |
Yes, that is the routine. Little ones eat first until their little bellies are plump and full, then, after they nod off to sleep, the "big guns" come in! ;) |
