Puppy cages? Does anyone use the puppy cages that have the wire floor that is raised up and a metal pan undernieth so that the puppies don't get into their potty? What is your opinion on them? At what age do you put them in there and until what age? I guess I'd like to know how they work out for you? |
pens I have used Central Metal pens for many years..I like 2x3 and 3x3..they make grids for toy feet. When they start walking, I put down a sheet of vinyl flooring on the grid with a potty pad on one side...when they are around 8 wks I remove the vinyl and pad..most learn to wait to get out to potty, but can still potty on the grid, especailly at night and the pen stays clean.... I like a heavy metal pen of quality because they put a latch on the side of the top as well as the front...with a light weight gauge metal, many can push through the top on the side and get their head caught... |

There is plenty of room to play, I also keep their food and water in there for them. They are good to have not just for a puppy play area, you can also use them for a new Mom and pups, for a sick pup or adult, etc., you can easily wheel it into your bedroom at night to keep an eye on them. Or wheel it outside on your deck without the worry of a predator. I also like using them when I have company with very young children running around. You can get them at upco! another breeder turned me on to this. When I got my first 2 I paid 159.00 for them each. Its cheeper to order them from upco with shipping. IM actually going to be ordering a few more. When trying to look them up please be careful you will find them a little cheeper but they are not the big ones they are smaller. The pan underneath is very nice, easy clean up no mess! |
Forgot to mention they are also good to use if you have to separate a male from a female in heat. :) They have to easy doors for access one on top and one on the side. |

A work of caution about leaving this pen ouside with a puppy in it. Racoons CAN tear into that wire cage and get the pup!! I've seen that happen in TN. These pens should never take the place of house training a puppy or become too much of a baby sitter so to speak. I know people who show dogs use stackable crates and all, but I find it a bit too cruel. |
I've never heard of upco, but like their site! Who has better prices and etc.....petedge or upco ??? |
That's to funny cause I never heard of petedge.:p Upco is located in Missouri I was turned on to it by a fellow breeder so far I have found their prices very low compared to the chicago land area where IM from. ;) plus, I havent found that cage anywhere near us besides in the small version. |
I have 2 of them that I purchased at UPCO. It's in St. Joseph, MO. Orscheln's also sells them, but they are smaller. I wanted mine to be as big as possible. They are a great place to put puppies to bed at night and if you need to "put them away" for safe keeping. |
Orscheln's is where i got mine they got me for 159.00 each :mad: . had no choice at the time had to have them a.s.a.p now I know better and going to be ordering from upco from now on. :) |
