Flea Medicine On A Nursing Mommy?????
 
now that it is getting warm outside, the fleas will be coming out. little girl is nursing and i need to start giving flea medicine. i am sure the answer is NO, but i thought i would ask.

her last litter i did not give any flea medicine and the puppies got fleas, then they got scabs from the flea bites. it was quite embarrassing when people came over to look at the puppies. i don't want this to happen again.
any advise??????

No, No and NO!!!!!!!!!!!. One of my babies from kandy's litter got fleas also and the vet told me to just keep them flea combed. Mama, too. Hopefully, they are confined away from the other dogs? My mama's and babies aren't even near the other dogs until six or seven weeks except when mama goes to potty.

No, No and NO!!!!!!!!!!!. One of my babies from kandy's litter got fleas also and the vet told me to just keep them flea combed. Mama, too. Hopefully, they are confined away from the other dogs? My mama's and babies aren't even near the other dogs until six or seven weeks except when mama goes to potty.

i knew it would be you to come to my rescue. they are away from my other dogs but when she goes out to potty, i just worry she will get them and give it to her babies like she did last time. WHAT A MESS!!. i need to get a flea comb.

I've heard that dawn dishwashing liquid kills fleas. There are several threads on this if you do a search for dawn dish soap.

i have always used Dawn for fleas but didn't know to use it on dry coats. HUMMMMMMM! Interesting read.

Lisa...here's a completely safe & organic way that could help in your situation...it's a product called "Fossil Shell Flour" or "Diatomaceous Earth" (D.E.) at:

It kills pests physically not chemically...when the pests come into contact w/ the product it punctures the bugs body & the bug dies from loss of fluids, so the dying process takes longer but it does happen.It's feels like razor sharp shards to the bugs but to us it feels like soft flour... If you get the food grade D.E.(that's the one they call fossil shell flour) you can put it in the pets bedding, carpet & in the pets hair ( you need to get it to the skin not in the hair). I personally didn't like the feel of my Jack's hair when it was in there but it's better than nothing. Next time I'm going to part his hair & lightly sprinkle it ON the skin.This is so safe it's used in the silos where our grains are stored to control meal bugs so we eat some of it. Thought I'd pass this along as an alternative to the pesticides.. you can investigate for yourself :)

it absolutely works. i always wash their bodies with dawn and heads and faces with baby shampoo. i have seen the fleas crawl to their heads to get out of the dawn and I have also flea combed dead fleas off after their bath. i am a firm believer.

you might want to try vinegar also. I put some in a spray bottle and spray around the area and on the coats. If you put it on the pups you might want to make sure they stay warm tho.
lemon also is good for chasing the fleas away.
