I know it must be heart wrenching to worry so about such a tiny pup. Glad to see that she finally found food she loved enough to gobble. Her pics are just so precious; she is tiny in size but hugely beautiful.

With my finicky little eater, this seemed to work and was easy to put together:
Science Diet canned puppy, mixed with full fat cottage cheese AND goat's milk. This was the only "gruel" I could get her to eat and if I even left out one ingredient, she would turn her little nose up at it.

Good luck with your precious little baby and please post updates on her continued growth. I want to see her at a HUGE 1.0 lb (at least), very soon!

Firstly - who precious is that "happy tummy" picture!?!?! So cute. Secondly - I'm so glad she ate. Such a relief! And lastly - there is a link at www.yorkiepassion.com that has a growth chart that I've heard is pretty acurate. I've got a little one too but not near as little as yours! :) She's precious and great job!! :)

Update on Lily
 

Lily is still doing great! We took her in on Monday for her weekly weigh in and she weighed a whopping 1.2lbs!

We have continued her on the hypoglycemic formula but replaced the half and half with goat's milk at the vet's suggestion because it is easier on her digestive system and have started adding ground up dry puppy food. She loves it and eats like a little pig.

I've posted some updated pics that I just took this weekend. Her eyes are still a bit cloudy but seem to be getting better. Anyone have any ideas on why her eyes are cloudy? The vet says that it will clear on it own and isn't anything to worry about but of course I worry anyway.

You can see in the last pic that she can really be feisty! She was in the middle of a barking tirade because she hates it we I take her picture.

I can't thank everyone enough for all the help!

You are special....Lily might not be here without a wonderful owner like you..her weight sounds so much better now...and her eyes look normal color for a puppy her age..they have that bluish tint..then clear...I think she will get to 2 pounds since she is doing so well now...

She is an absolute doll!! I am totally in LOVE!! What a sweet little necklace she is wearing...where did you find one like that so tiny??

awww how tiny is she !! *WOW* :eek: have you tried giving her canned puppy food & tried soaking some "babydog" royal canin and mixing them together. That is what i had to w/ my runt in my last litter and i also give nutracal as well. My vet also gave him a vitamin b shot to help make him get to start eating. Instead of water i continue giving him nursing milk to gain more weight. I hope that this info is helpful to you !! good luck hun !! :D make sure to keep me posted.

It's actually suppose to be a collar, it's just too big for her. I only put in on her when I want to take a "Glamour" shot of her ;)

She is just adorable! You should be very proud to have brought her along like this! So glad she is eating and gaining so much weight! I just wanna eat her up!! I hope you stick around here so we can watch her grow!!

OMG, Your Lily looks just like my Lola did at that age. When I got Lola she was 15oz at 10 weeks and I had a hard time feeding her also. I woudl give her NutraCal 3 times a day and she loved that. She didn't even like drinking water! I left food out at all times and eventually she took to it. At first they fed her soft food which she didn't seem to like too much so I started to give her dry food and I would wet it with water, slowly she got the hang of it and today she is 1 year old and weighs about 3.5lbs!

You are going to want to be very careful force feeding him as i just did and the puppy ended up getting aspirated pnemoeaia. he also had no intrest in food but we found something he loves boiled chicken but this was after he got over the sickness....let me know

FAT BALLS
.... for weight gain ....

10 lb (4.53kg) Hamburger
10 oz (.28kg) Oats
6 Egg Yolks
10 oz (.28kg) Wheat Germ
10 oz (.28kg) Molasses

Put in a big bowl and mix.
Roll into one inch balls and freeze.


FAT BALLS #2
.... for weight gain ....

lb (.45kg) hamburger mince (high fat content)
1 package cream cheese
1 jar all natural peanut butter
1 dozen egg yolks
1 cup rolled oats soaked in milk
1 jar wheat germ

Mix thoroughly (with hands is best).
Freeze into meal sized bags and thaw as needed.


FAT BALLS #3

Small container of heavy cream
1 dozen egg yolks
2 blocks of cream cheese (room temp)
5 lbs ground beef
1 small box TOTAL cereal (crunch up into small crumbs)
1 cup wheat germ

Mix dry ingredients, add heavy cream, add cream cheese
Mix together.
Add ground beef
Mix together
Roll into balls, and freeze


FAT BALLS #4

2 cups Dry Dog food
2 packs cream cheese
1? cups Peanut Butter
? cup Corn Oil
1 cup Cottage Cheese
1 pound Browned Hamburger (save some of the grease)

Blend dog food (crushed fine) and add remaining ingredients.
Mix till you have a doughy mixture add more dog meal as needed if consistency is too thin.
On wax paper spread some meal and roll out mixture into log shape.
Refrigerate until firm and slice as needed.
Feed them a slice or two several times during the day. Very high calorie...will put weight on fairly quick.


AUSTRALIAN SATIN BALLS
.... for weight gain ....


4.53kg Hamburger Meat
567grams Wheat Germ
1 large box of Oatmeal [uncooked]
340 grams of Sanitarium Weetbix [small box]
1? cups Vegetable Oil
10 eggs [boiled in shell for 30 seconds]
10 envelopes of unflavoured Gelatin
1? cups unflavoured Molasses [also known as Treacle]
2 teaspoons Kelp
1 cup of ground Flax Seed
A pinch of salt
Garlic to taste

Mix all ingredients together well, much like a meat-loaf, then put into separate freezer bags and freeze, thawing out as needed. It puts weight on in a very short time, not to mention the gloss in their coat. You can use it every day when they have a show to do and it does not produce diarrhoea. It can be fed alone or with kibble.

Satin Balls are a total canine diet. They can be feed by themself, or as a supplement.


HEALTHY WEIGHT GAIN MIX

1 pint whole fat Cottage Cheese
1 lb turkey (or any other ground meat) burger (raw)
2-3 eggs - boiled in the shell for 30 seconds*
2 tablespoons Flax Seed or Olive oil
1 can sardines or tuna fish

It is full of protein, essential fatty acids and digestive enzymes.

*Boiling the eggs for 30 seconds denature the whites and leave the benefits of the yolks intact.


FATTENING TREATS

Doggie Peanut Cheese Balls

1 dozen hard boiled eggs, chopped
1 lb jar crunchy peanut butter
1 container of Quaker Oatmeal
2 cups of evaporated milk, (Don't dilute!!)
1 jar wheat germ
1 lb hamburger
8oz. package cream cheese
1 envelope Knox Gelatin Joint Complex, (unflavoured)

In one bowl, pour the evaporated milk over the oatmeal and put aside. Go have a cup of coffee, while you wait for oats to absorb the liquid!

In a second Large Bowl, place all the other ingredients. Start mixing together, hands work best. Add the oatmeal and evaporated milk mixture, and mix again. When thoroughly blended, form into meatball sized treats, layering in a plastic freezer container. Freeze until needed. Remove a few at a time, allow to thaw, and feed as fattening snacks!

FATTEN 'EM UP QUICK MEATLOAF

Note: This requires a huge pot for mixing! Makes a two week supply for one dog.

1 dozen hard boiled eggs, chopped
10 lbs of inexpensive hamburger meat
20 oz Jar of Wheat Germ
1 canister of Knox Gelatin, joint complex, (Knox Unflavoured NutraJoint Powder 5.5oz)
1 large box of Total breakfast cereal [Australians use 340 grams of Sanitarium Weetbix]
2 x 1 lb boxes of Quaker oatmeal, (the kind you cook)
1? cups Canola Oil
12 oz jar of unsulfered Molasses
? tsp salt
1 heaping teaspoon minced Garlic, (jarred variety or fresh, NOT dried)
Box of 1qt Freezer bags

Just dump all into huge pot and dig in. It takes some effort, and you will be up to your elbows, but you want to mix thoroughly.
Separate into 14 freezer bags, gently squeezing out the air before sealing. Flatten out the bags, (this will allow for a quicker thaw period), and lay flat on a freezer shelf.
Feed one packet each day, half in morning, half in evening. Breaking up into chunks, or rolling into meatballs.

For skinny dogs, adding avocados helps to put on pounds and mix in a little bit of alfalfa (which can be found at most health food stores) into their meals.

Try some of these suggestions to tempt the appetite:

Eggs lightly scrambled in butter and adding yoghurt or cream cheese

Saut?ed chicken liver in butter

Hard boiled eggs

Cooked or boiled hamburger, mixed with grated or parmesan cheese

Baby foods, such as pureed meats

Homemade chicken soup with noodles

Canned salmon or sardines

Macaroni and cheese with minced beef or sausage

Plain yoghurt with pureed liver, mix well

Canned chicken chunks

Bites from your own plate


Herbal Supplement Blend

1 ounce each alfalfa; marshmallow root; comfrey; mullein leaves; dandelion root; nettles; parsley

2 ounces each: burdock root or seed; chamomile; horsetail; oat straw; red clover; rose hips; rosemary; slippery elm bark; thyme
? ounce each catnip; fennel seeds; garlic powder
1 dash cayenne pepper

If using cut and sifted herbs, slenderise to a coarse powder. Mix with already-powdered herbs, and store in a dark jar in refrigerator or cool place.

To use for dogs: give 1 tablespoon to 1 cup per day, depending on the size of the dog.

Mix herb powder with food or sprinkle it on top. This is only a mineral and preventive medicinal supplement.

For pregnant or nursing pets, add to the above:
? ounce each: chickweed; comfrey; milk thistle; raspberry leaf

The Comfrey is in addition to the amount used in the basic recipe.

I was sooooo happy to see your little girl is up to a whopping 1.2 Lbs!!!!!!! That picture of her barking at you should go on a Yorkie magazine cover, it's soooo darn cute. I can just imagine that tiny little face emitting that funny little puppy bark and I want to just scoop her up and kiss her to pieces!!! Has the open fontanel closed any further? Kimberly - I don't mean to "question" your knowledge... but have you ever tried these TIPS yourself? I'm just wondering because I've always been told to "never" give a dog any type of pasta/macaroni/noodles.

I had a female AKC Bull Mastiff approximately 29 years ago that died from someone feeding her macaroni. She blew up like a beach ball. We had no idea what it was as we hadn't mated her and she was on dry food - so we took her to our vet (right then) and she died on the table. He said she was full of macaroni - that is had swelled in her stomach and become toxic. Maybe things have changed after 29 yrs - but that was something I will never forget.

I have been told to feed pasta ie. macaroni or noodles with low sodium chicken broth to my liver compromised yorkie when he won't eat...And we haven't had any problems at all. I know many people who give their dogs noodles on the recommendation of their vets...

Again, I am sooo sorry that you lost your Mastiff that way. I have read somewhere that large breed dogs have bloating problems sometimes...

wow, i'm sorry to hear about your mastiff. it happened so quicly. maybe your mastiff had bloat or a twisted stomach? i honestly doubt it was the actually macaroni that did it but it could have been the way she ate it. SHe may have been eating too much to fast and swallowed alot of air (which would explain the 'beach ball' effect).

You're probably right - because my x and I didn't give it to her we didn't know exactly what happened. She was in the backyard (in the Midwest they have alleys running through the center of the block) when I found her she was already blown up. It was terrible! We only had her a short time - she was such a sweetie. We had a male that was older and much larger, who everyone loved, so it was hard to believe that someone had done it maliciously. We never did find out who fed her. I'm glad to know that it isn't bad for them... it's always worried me. Thanks again :thumbup:

Lily is doing great! She will be four months old this week. She now weighs 1.3lbs and eats regularly without too much of a fight. She is a little spit fire. She loves giving kisses and her favorite activity is chasing Bailey all around the house. She just recently has begun to paw at your leg when she wants to be picked up. I just adore her! :luvu:

Unfortunately she doesn't seem to be growing much. She is 5 inches tall and 5.5 inches long and hasn't grown in the past 3 weeks. The vet believes that her growth may be stunted due to her open fontanel and some hydrocephalus, the extent of which is still unknown. Other than that she seems to be just like any normal pup. Her long term prognosis is still in question and I don't know what the future holds for her but I will love her for as long as she is with me. Several people have asked me for an update. I will try to post an update in the My Yorkie section later today with some pics (If I can get her to be still enough for a minute).

The thing that really makes me sad is that whenever someone see her, they want to know where they can get a Yorkie that small. I always explain to them how she is much smaller than a Yorkie ever should be and let them know about her health problems. I'm hoping that educating a potential buyer is the key to shutting down some of this breeders who try to breed "teacups" or "super tinies". My Lily is the result of this and it makes me angry every time:mad: Okay time to get off my soapbox. :o
