Huckleberry Ridge Yorkies??? Hi, Anyone heard of Huckleberry Ridge Yorkies out of NC? Thanks! |
i have never heard of them but i can tell you this much. i just googled them and they are on every pet site ad out there. i would think this is a red flag that they are having a hard time selling the puppies. (not uncommon since yorkies now a days are being bred by everyone and they are everywhere) i looked at the website. i could be wrong but these puppies look like the are going to be on the bigger size. take a look at their paws. i wasn't real impressed looking at their site and their breeding stock. they could be great but it is very hard to tell w just looking at a website. i hope someone can give you a better insite |
Question Did you get your puppy from Huckleberry Ridge Yorkies? |
reply about huckleberry ridge yorkies Hi there, We are huckleberry Ridge yorkies, we are not a kennel with 25 dogs. I know that you are curious about us, but please don't ask other breeders as a lot of times they will be the first ones to reply negative about another breeder because they want you to buy their puppy instead. If you have questions about us, please contact me and i will give you our vet references so they can give you the sizes of our yorkies. We do have some larger yorkies, nobody said that larger yorkies don't deserve good homes either. Then we have smaller ones as well. Take little Dickens for instance, he is about 3 pounds. You can see him on our males page at www.huckleberry-ridge-yorkies.com/males.html We have Gabriel who is about 4.5 pounds, Mi Mi who is about 4 pounds, she has gotten a little bit bigger since she had her first litter. We also have River, who is a little bigger than the others, we may not breed her again because she is ready to retire. She weighs about 6 pounds and then Daisy who is larger, she weighs about 7.5 pounds and is fat. As I stated, please contact me at toxentine@gmail.com and I can give you our vets name for a reference or other puppy buyers from the past. I am not just a hobby breeder, my yorkies are part of our family. We have had yorkies for more than 10 years and can't imagine our life without them even if we didn't breed. |
one more quick response I wanted to respond one more time. I wanted first off to say that we are small hobby breeders who are a Christian family and love our yorkies, big and small. I am not trying to put anyone down or bash any other breeder, that wasn't my intentions, but it does upset me that I got negative response from a breeder who says that a red flag should be put up when they seen a lot of ads online to help find homes for my babies... yes, i do have ads online looking for right homes for my babies, but so do you. I just googled the person that said that and she has a lot of puppy ads as well. Here are just a few: www.domesticsale.com/user_166969_beachyorkies/ www.hoobly.com/29616/1908/0/ www.dogbreedersearch.com/kennels.../beach-yorkies.html virginiabeach.olx.com/beach-yorkes-iid-3250130 www.infodog.com/brag/breepage/b134721.htm www.squidoo.com/tcup www.petsunlimited.com/local_pet_adoptions.cfm/id/37516 www.xomreviews.com/beachyorkies.com www.opuppy.com/dog-breeds/yorkshire-terrier/.../page/1/ www.terrificpets.com/dog_directory/dog_clubs.asp www.puppiessale.org/Yorkshire-terrier-puppies-for-sale27_CL.aspx www.puppiesanddogsforsale.com/.../personal_dogsites.asp?... virginiabeach.olx.com › For Sale www.cubestat.com/www.beachyorkies.com www.domesticsale.com/Classifieds/.../Yorkshire-Terrier/ local.yahoo.com/VA/Virginia+Beach/.../Dog+Breeders www.breedersdirectory.com › Index › Dog Breeds - www.nextdaypets.com/directory/dogs/.../dog_personals~111~4.aspx Also, about my site not impressing the person that remarked on that, it is okay, I can't please everyone, but hey, I like it and so do the folks that give our puppies their new homes. I am not here to critisize you as you have done me, but I wanted to make light that we are no different. I love my yorkies, you love yours! I am not a big time breeder, I am a hobby breeder who has smaller and larger yorkies, I like both! If you want to see feet that are smaller go to my males page and look at dickens and gabriels feet. Or to go Mi MI's page and see hers, they are smaller, but I love my bigger ones as well. Don't mean to sound grumpy, just trying to defend my site and babies. I think any mama would do the same! Hope EVERYONE has a very Merry CHRISTmas.:) No hard feelings meant, I am sure that the lady that posted about me is a great lady and has wonderful yorkies. |

response to Jackson25 Hi there, I don't take your response as a bash at all and I do agree with you to a certain point. I feel that 4 1/2 pound doggies shouldn't be bred either if they are bred to a bigger male. The male that we use is under 3 pounds to breed her to and our vet said that was fine. If you need to call them email me and I will send you their number. I think it is a matter of opinion because my Mi Mi whom I was very careful with choosing a mate and monitored the whole time did better with her pregnancy and whelping than some of our bigger dogs do. She has had the easiest time and with our vets approval can be bred again. Again, I agree with you on that except for instances where they are bred to significantly smaller males. I feel that if there was a real issue with it then the AKC would step in and not allow dogs that size to breed. Or the vets would warn that we should never breed them that size. But our Mi Mi did fine and some people may disagree with it and you are totally intitled to your opinion, but if my vet okay's it then we will take their opinion. I didn't join this board to be ugly to people and I don't mean for it to sound that way to you or anyone else. I am sure you are a great person and have your strong opinions but it isn't very nice to say that someone isn't a reputable breeder because they took the advise of their vet and bred their female to a much smaller male. nontheless, have a merry Christmas and Happy new year!!! best of luck with your babies, i know they must be very beautiful and am sure you love them very much!:animal36 |
to Jackson25 I wanted to respond one more time again LOL. Sorry about not adding this in the last response, just wasn't thinking about it. I wanted to also respond on the 4 pound female and the 4 1/2 pound female you noted. I have never bred a 4 pound female before as I have never had one until Mi Mi, but I wanted to let you know that I did this time due to the vets recommendations. However, I dont' have a 4 1/2 pound female. That is Gabriel my male you can go back and read the messages and see that I noted Gabriel as 4 1/2 pounds. I only have one breeder at the moment. I did have Daisy, River, and in the past bred Trixie, but they are all getting ready to retire. Trixie has been retired, she is close to 10 years old. Then daisy, not sure but I am thinking of retiring her. River as well. Gabriel is one of our two males, but he is retiring as well. He is such a funny guy, loves to watch tv with us!!! He is crazy over tv and lights on the radio. If we are watching a nature channel and he sees a bear he is shaking and on my lap immediately. We use wee wee wraps on our males so they don't spray the furniture.. what do you use? I am really getting too many, but it is hard to find homes for them once they retire. Daisy might be able to get a new home, not sure if I can part with her either, she would be th eonly one right now..unless I change my mind and not sure if I can part with any of them. :animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:) |

response to Jackson25 Hi there again, to reply to your response, i would never do anything to put my female in harms way, but as we all know that any sized female can be in some danger when bred and the only reason I feel comfortable with breeing Mi Mi is because my dr. who is Dr. Ogle in Wilkesboro, NC has told me that it is fine to breed a female of 4 pounds as long as the male is smaller. I called them just now and confirmed it once again just to be sure and they said it is fine for me to breed her as long as I have a smaller male to breed her to. She said that they have patients that breed 3 pound females with smaller males and they do fine. I don't do 3 pound females, but they do. It isn't anymore dangerous to breed a 4 pounder than an 7 pounder as long as the male is smaller. I understand that you and the other breeders here don't do that and I wouldn't either if my vet didn't say that it was fine. I would say they know what they are talking about. :):animal-pa Not that you don't, but doesn't our own vets know what they are talking about? They go to school and are educated on this stuff. If you want to call dr. Ogle just give me a quick email at toxentine@gmail.com and I can give you her phone number. |

Where do your dogs live? How many litters do your bitches have before you retire? When do you retire your males? Are your males related? What testing do you do on your breeding pair? How many dogs do you have? |
response to cindy Hi there Cindy and the rescue team, in response to your message to me and the questions you asked, here are the answers, if I leave any out let me know. I will write back tomorrow as I am about to go out of town to take my mother to her sisters. First off my dogs live in our home, sleep in our beds, on the couches and in their crates at times. At times they are in the laundry room if we have a quick errand and don't want all of them left out in the house. We have been visited by the AKC and passed easily. My mama dogs have 3 to 4 litters usually. However, I haven't had but the yorkies I mentioned ever before. Trixie was our first and she is old. She was here for a while and not bred to begin with, she was just our baby and still is today! She is a very smart girl who thinks she is still 3! She runs and barks and bosses all of our other yorkies around. She is the head honcho around here! Then there was Gabriel born years later and Daisy whom we bought from a breeder here in NC. They are both sweethearts, but Daisy was a little older. We got Gabriel as a couple month old baby. Then got River and she had Dickens later on and we kept him. Dickens and Gabriel are what i call brothers, but not by blood. Not sure about when to retire our males, I haven't done that yet. Am thinking of retiring Gabriel now, but he is only 5. What do you think? Is that too soon? About how many we have well lets see, I think I have mentioned all of them in this email... we have Trixie, Daisy, Gabriel, Dickens, River and Mi MI... all but Mi Mi. I didn't mention her in this message. Anyway, hope I have answered all of your questions and to be honest, I don't think i will be having many more litters as Mi Mi is the last female I have to breed. I can breed Daisy or River again, but don't think that I will be doing that. It is a hobby for us. I have mentioned on my site that we had rags for sale, but she wasn't mine, i was selling her for someone else and then we were supposed to have puppies like in October and December. But we didn't. We decided to likely retire those females and didn't breed. We have Mi Mi bred again though. She is due soon. I don't have but one to two litters a year. It will NONE next year of our own dogs as I won't be breeding Mi Mi next year at all... if I breed her again it will be a while. Hope you have a great night and thanks for writing!;):animal-pa:animal-pa |

Yes, I am glad you consult your vet. Many that just breed to be doing it don't even consult their vet. I too would say you and your vet. know your dogs the best. |
Yorkies Thanks Jackson25, you seem like a sweet lady who loves her yorkies! They are special!!! :aimeeyork |

There must have been some posts deleted earlier because I don't see where anyone posted any derogatory statements about you. I see where a few mentioned things they would be wary of when looking at your site, and you have come here to defend yourself...completely understandable. You were open and offered people to email you and offered references, which is good. I would encourage you to stick around for a while and you will see that YT is full of people who love their dogs. (Not people trying to convince others not to buy your dogs so that they can sell theirs.) |
opinions Hi there, It is nice to hear from you. Thanks for responding to my messages. I appreciate everyone's imput on this site and have enjoyed chatting with you all. First off I wanted to say that I am sorry for the breeder remark about other breeders writing negative things to get their puppies sold, I have learned very differently by being on here for just a short while. Seems like all of you are very good people with your own opinions about things. I think I have some different views thaN you do, but that doesn't mean that I don't love my yorkies, because i do. You are right being a Christian has nothing to do with me as a breeder, I didn't aim for that to seem that way. I just was writing a little bit about our family to give others an idea and it has actually (in the past) caused other Christians to call me and we have become friends, sorry if that remark offended anyone, but it is part of who I am and I will always make that known in the way I live and the things I write. About my vet, I love her and have used her for years, she is a wonderful vet, not perfect but wonderful. I can't say anything personally that she has ever done or advice she has given me that has been harmful to my dogs or puppies so I won't be finding another vet being I don't know of any others that I trust in my area. My vet truly cares about our animals. Once I had a puppy born that was very small and wasn't doing well and she offered to take the puppy home with her and give it treatments all night long. She is great and knows her stuff, it just might not be the same opinions as others have. Dr. Ogle is a trained professional and very experienced with dogs... however, I will call another vet tomorrow and ask their opinion on this matter.. not switch vets but call another and ask their opinion. On the other hand, I have enjoyed so much being on this site and hope to have many more conversations on here with others. Feel free to contact me anytime and hope you ALL have a Wonderful Christmas!!!! ;) |
I am quite sure you love your Yorkies. We all do...wouldn't be here if we didn't. And yes, we do have quite a difference of opinion on this board from time to time, but I have found the people that don't think like me are actually the ones that open my my thinking in regards to other 'ways.' You didn't offend me with your comment regarding being a Christian at all, and I don't think you meant anything bad by it. (It's certainly NOT something to be ashamed of!:D) I know though that sometimes you run across breeders who plaster their religious beliefs on their sites and to many it seems suspicious...like they 'use' that as if it alone should convince you that they are ethical people. Many kind of frown on that, so I just wanted to put it out there that it isn't always perceived well. Your choice of vet is just that...your choice. However, as others have pointed out, some of the advice she is giving you many people disagree with. But in the end, it's your choice to live with. Welcome to the site. :) |
Thanks Thanks for the advice and for welcoming me to the site. I have enjoyed it very much. Thanks so much for making me feel comfortable here.. everyone.:) |
I know these posts are older but I came across them and had to reply. I purchased a puppy from Huckelberry Ridge Yorkies in Febuary 2010 and am very happy. They were great people to work with and Charlie was a great addition to our family. We traveled from Michigan to pick him in NC and are hopefully going to be getting another pup from Huckleberry Ridge in the near future. Thank you Huckleberry Ridge for everything!:animal-pa |
