Lake Country Pets Atoka, OK. Long story short... I didn't want a puppy from a pet shop / puppy mill / horror place, etc... and much to my disappointment and misuderstanding i endedup getting a puppy for a pet shop in Florida. They confused my aunt and told her that the puppy is coming directly from a good breeder. However, they didn't explain to her that they got the puppy through a broker, Lake Country Pets in Atoka, OK, who got the puppy from a breeder named Jeremy Allen, who is in association with Lake Country Pets Atoka, OK. Now, I don't know anything about how this place operates, and if they're breeders are good people... I'm so worried that my baby came from a puppy mill or some horrible place. Has anyone ever delt with Lake Country Pets? Please let me know if you have any information. Thanks. |
Uh oh. Sorry though I don't know anything about them and don't have time to google them right now...maybe later. Do you already have your baby? How old is she? has she been vet checked and how is her health? |
here is a link to a legel document about someone buying a Papillon from Petco (pup bred by Lake Country Pets) who had problems. I know there are still plenty of folks out there who don't have a website, but I feel kinda iffy about that. Still, no links to anyone griping about them in a forum somewhere. Worse yet, LOTS of people griping! I couldn't find anything much.... |
puppy There really is not much you can do now...let the vet give you puppy a good health check and look to the future with your pet...good Luck |
Simon is doing well I had Simon checked by my vet and was given a clean bill of health. He has a bit of a viral infection... basically a runny nose, but the vet said it was fine and that he would be ok. He's 11 weeks old, playing, happy and seems fine... i just hope no complications arise in the coming years. Thanks for your help guys. |
Here is their info if you want it.... Lake Country Pets (580) 889-6757 371 E Highway 3 # B Atoka, OK 74525 |
Many thanks to you all Thanks for the help. |
Sadly, Oklahoma is know for it's puppymills. Not to say that this kennel is a puppymill, because I have had no personal experiences with them, but more often than not, you will find them rather than a reputable breeder when searching for breeders. Now, with your new baby, just love him and care for him, and if you find out that you were misled or even lied to, then do not ever give that kennel's name out as a reference. Word of mouth travels QUICKLY! Enjoy your new family member. |

i've noticed too that it's mainly in the SE part of oklahoma too!! TONS of puppymills!!! not saying that they aren't all over the place... b/c i'm sure they are. |
You are right. There is a heavy concentration in the SE, but you are also right in that they are statewide. That is why I tell my potential buyers to go look around. I encourage them to check out several "kennels" before they make a decision. I do not give names. I tell them to do the research and make an informed decision. |
If you don't go to the breeders home to look at the pups and the parents of the pups, then rest assured, your buying a puppy mill pup or byb. I'm sorry you are going thru this. |
WOW! I didn't know all this puppy mill stuff in Oklahoma. I am actually from NE Oklahoma (In Kansas currently for College) I bought both of my Yorkies in Oklahoma. But I had the opportunity to visit both places and see their parents and the living conditions they had. So I'm glad I checked into everything and looked around for a good breeder before I bought. Thats kinda scary! |
Precisely why I REQUIRE that my buyers to come to my home. Not always convenient for them, but best for them and for the puppy. I like to see them interact with the pups, too. |

It's nice finding people like you that actually CARE about the pups they are selling... :) |

Reply to your comment and question on Lake Country Pets Hello, I also bought a dog from a dog from Lake Country Pets. My husband and I were living in Georgia at the time and got our chihuahua from a pet store. Little did we know that our dog "Peanut" came from the Puppy Mill. I did a recent online search of the mill and someone had recorded video of the outside of one of the buildings. Yes. It has been closed and yes it was a puppy mill. We bought our dog back in 2005. He is such a cutie and he is also very hyper and licks constantly as in giving kisses to face hands, etc. I feel bad because we will never be able to obtain his heritage or family history. So far he is healthy although his joints are bothering him somewhat. :animal-pa Could you write back to me and let me know if you ever found out anything about the company yourself? Thank you very much and I hope your dog is doing ok. Carol :animal36 |
