first time breeding help hi everyone. i would like to know if anybody can tell me where i can get information on yorkie breeding for beginners. my little Sadi, is almost 2 years old & has never had pups. we are wanting to breed her, but know nothing about how to do so. we don't want to breed her for the money. we want the pups!! please help with any available information. thank you so much. |
Just start reading. Read everything! Start here on the breeding forum. Then the library. Don't forget to ask questions and get a mentor. Good Luck |
Before you breed her, you need to make sure she is x-rayed for Luxating Patellas and tested for liver shunts. These are two VERY common conditions in Yorkies and you want to make 110% sure that YOUR yorkie AND the stud you will breed her with have both been tested and cleared of these two things BEFORE you breed her. Best of Luck! And Welcome to YorkieTalk! :) |

breeding Remember your sire and dam can be tested for liver shunt and still produce a liver shunt puppy..and they can have good knees and produce a puppy with bad patella's...faults and genetic disease can skip a generation or two..even longer...it is the health of the line that is most important, not the health of one male and one female... |

ETA: She still needs to have both dogs tested before she breeds...whether she knows the line her yorkies came from or not. |
breeding Of course, I thought that went without saying, sorry. What I am saying is this..many say they have tested the parents and all is well, so if a puppy has a problem it could not possible be the fault of the breeder since they tested their dogs... I read a recent post on another forum...breeder of 20 yrs said they have never had any health problems if any sort ever...how is this possible? Never a hernia, bad knee, bad bite, allergy, etc etc...this is the first breeder I have ever heard to have no problems whatsoever... |
