Tails are docked I wish I lived closer to someone who does the clamp and twist. I just took my four little ones to the Vet to have the procedure done and it's been an hour and they are still whimpering. Not like they did at first, but it just breaks my heart. Poor Emilee just doesn't seem to know what to do. I just checked again and they are a little quieter. Guess I'm not really needing advice, I don't know, but having this done hurts my heart as much as it must their tails. |
:( Poor little pups - I would feel the same way as you do. |
sugarsmom did it herself for the first time just a few weeks ago. she said it was easy. the puppies did cry. i think they will always cry after this procedure. |
tails I have not had them cry afterwards with the clamp and twist....they are upset to some degree being out of the bed, but once I take the clamp off and put them with mom they are back to sleep with no crying... |
Oh you are a brave woman i just don't think i could do it lol |

Horrible! Brutal! I can't believe what I'm reading here on yorkie talk. Docking? Try MUTILATION! Chopping off animals tails is against the law in the EU (that's European Union) and for good reason- it's called CRUELTY TO ANIMALS! Young yorkies in France all have their tails and they're beautiful. There is no reason to continue such a brutal and inhumane practice. I assumed that since the USA is so far ahead of the rest of the world (or used to be anyway ) in technology and civil rights issues that something like widespread and socially accepted animal mutilation was in the past. I'm glad I've found a worthwhile cause that must be addressed to help yorkies across the states. |

tails What you do in France is the business of the French..what we do in America is the business of us Americans...! |

Chopping an animals tail for Cosmetic reasons is RUDE! No, no, no people. First of all- I am a US citizen, however I happen to live overseas- so don't start on any ridiculous French vs. USA stuff. I am a US passport holder that can trace my family back to the Mayflower- literally. Among organizations fighting to change the cruel practice of tail docking they state that having a tail is part of an "animal's right of self-expression". In fact the American Veterinary Association and American Animal Hospital Associations are on my side. Please refer to the following web site which is dated December 15, 2003 http://www.avma.org/onlnews/javma/dec03/031215e.asp I've quoted a small part below: New AAHA position statement opposes cosmetic ear cropping, tail docking Recently, the American Animal Hospital Association announced that it has revised its position on ear cropping and tail docking of pets and now opposes these surgical procedures when performed for cosmetic reasons alone. Moreover, the AAHA supports laws requiring veterinarians to report suspected cases of animal abuse, as long as veterinarians are protected from liability. The international organization of more than 29,000 veterinary care providers has also stated that the profession is responsible for contributing to solutions for reducing the number of healthy animals euthanatized annually. These are among a number of new and amended animal welfare position statements the AAHA board of directors approved in October. I wonder what your views would be on the Middle Eastern and African practice of "female circumcision". Those that perform it on innocent young girls also think they have good reasons to do so. |
We circumcise our sons here, and that is for good reason. *shrugs* Doesn't the AKC require docked tails for showing? And even if those organizations don't agree with it, it isn't illegal here in the US and most people WANT a docked tail on their yorkies. That is what they are known for here in the US...much as a Doberman who are born flopped eared are known for having small pointy ears. If you are wanting to debate whether docking should or shouldn't be allowed, then please start your own thread about it and do not bash the members here or show a rude attitude towards them. The breeders here truly love their babies and they have the right to choose to or not to dock as they see fit. |

tails I know this is not a popular idea..but there is a difference between a dog a and a human. So I can not debate what we do to dogs and humans in the same sentence. I respect all life, but all life is not equal. As to dogs..I believe we should do all possible to spare pain and suffering. Docking a tail at 3 days with a clamp is a procedure that inflicts little pain..spaying/neutering, rabies shots, drawing blood and many other procedures are far more painful...I realize you feel it is not necessary adn I repsect your view...I feel it is and when and if they ban tail docking I will comply. Sorry, to assume you were French... |
Just To Throw My Opinion Into This Subject - My Last Yorkie Was In Fact Docked When I Got Him 15 Years Ago, It Was Seen As The Only Thing To Do At The Time. My Harvey Who Is 11 Months Old, Has A Full Tail And When I First Got Him I Couldnt Help But Think He Looked Weird.......... But Now I Have Become Used To It, And Love His Waggy Tail. To Be Honest The Tail Is A Lot More Active Than You Realise When It Is Docked And Adds To Personality. Over Here In The Uk I Think It Is Still Ok To Dock The Tail, But The Majority Of People Dont Do It Anymore. Dont Think It Is Illegal (but I Might Be Wrong). The Subject Is A Very Personal One And Now After Having Experience Of Both Tails - I Would Not Choose To Dock A Tail At All, As Even For A Little Pain, I Dont Feel There Is Any Benefit. But I Only Have My Baby As A Pet And Do Not Understand The Show Scene At All. But Each Person Truely Has The Right To Decide For Themselves - Unless The Law Decides It For Us. We Must Wait And See...... |

You know I started this thread only because I wanted some support. I received just that from everyone except one who decided to treat my post INHUMANE AND BRUTALLY! If that person would go back and read my post, I DID NOT ASK FOR AN OPINION. I am very proud of my dogs and the litters they have produced and love sharing with everyone here what is going on with my babies, just as I love reading about all the other people and their babies. If we practice the habit of staying on topic, this kind of 'MY OPINION MATTERS MOST' posts would no longer exist. |
tails It is a touchy subject..I realize we are all dog lovers and to some it is not love to inflict unnecessary pain...I have had Yorkies with and without tails, I still perfer no tail...but would stop if cutting and surturing was the only way it could be done... |

I was just thinking the same thing. Can you show a video. I'm completely stooped when you guys talk about the clamp and twist procedure. Quote:

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But bashing the US?? You really need to back off. I AM AMERICAN BORN AND RAISED i would never no matter what bash my country because of age old practices that have been happening long before you where ever born. So you can keep your passport opinions in France because they are not welcome here. You've chosen your opinion and your action leave us alone on ours. You do not see US YT'ers going to your boards/forums and bashing you for not docking your yorkies tails. Do you see us bashing the french because they dont circumsize their males?? No well here in the US Its up to the parents... and I for one am all for CIRCUMSIZED penis's. So I guess in your eyes I would be inhumane because both my boys are circumsized too. SO BE IT!!!!! What they do in Africa is their practice. All we can do is aide them in medicine, AIDS epidemic and help them.. We can not correct age old practices. And I am pretty sure if you go there and tell them they are inhumane and wrong, i am quite sure they will tell you to piss off. I am sorry If i am coming off rude or harsh but dont bash the US because we dock our tails, circumsize our sons and many other issues that the French does not approve of. Quote:
