Shipping a puppy-experiences good & bad please Hello , just curious how everyone feels about shipping puppies? What have your experiences been like? Have the puppies that were shipped done well? Thanks for any replies ! |
I would like to know too... waiting for answers... |
I would not ship a puppy in cargo plain and simple! They are too small and too much can happen with a puppy unsupervised so nope, not gonna happen :) Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers |
While I prefer not to ship cargo I will continue to do so as needed! I've had two bad experiences in shipping in the past, but those were that the dogs got on the wrong planes and I recovered them because of their tatooing and microchips and they were adult dogs. As far as puppies, last March I had a Yorkie flown to me from Budapest, Hungary via Lufthansa Airlines and she came off the plane like she owned the place. Clean, happy and quite content. Even the bow that the breeder had placed in her hair was still there w/o a hair out of place. While I felt the crate was much larger than it should've been, she was just fine and was only 11 weeks of age. ps, I've seen A LOT of dogs shipped (mostly European Conformation and working German Shepherds, pups too) and it's been done many MANY times w/o a hitch. pps, I would recommend AGAINST drugging or sedating them in any way, if they receive too much medication for their tolerance level then they often cannot regulate their own body temperature properly. |
I just got off the phone from making arrangements to ship a puppy on 03/09. I feel comfortable with the arrangements and I have also been educated from my mentor who's been doing it for 30 years. I made her a blanket, bought her a bed, will put her favorite toy with her, and will supply food and water dishes. I've been giving her Nutri-cal everyday and she will get it right before she leaves that day. I'm confindent she is going to be fine !!! |
We have shipped hundreds of beagles thru the years and never had a bad experience yet. i might ship my yorkies weather permitting and if they weigh two pounds and are old enough. i prefer that you fly in or I fly out with the baby. |
My babies have just now taken off from San diego. The flight is about 45 minutes late, but they have a layover in Houston so hopefully they will leave Houston on time. They are being flown by Continental. I highly reccommend them, they have a special vehicle that picks them up form the plane and takes them directly to the front desk. They do not travel with the rest of the cargo. We got Chachi via the same route and I was very pleased. I'll let you know tomorrow how this flight goes. It is a big worry and I know I will be on pins and needles until I get them out of the crate and give them some honey and some lovin. |

Continental airline refuses to ship sedated animals. |
Check this out, I can watch the progress of the flight. http://www.continental.com/web/en-US...6&&&IDX=5&TT=1 |
I have shipped. I have shipped both via cargo and VIP. Cargo is pretty much half the price of VIP. I don't regret doing it. My babies were handled very nicely and I didn't have any complaints. You do have to check because the weather will affect if you can ship an animal. |
I do not ship puppies. As it is when relocating to a new home they tend to go off food. Shipping is only asking for a hyperglycemic puppy, that and the possibility of flight delay, weather problems, etc. |

I've had 7 yorkie puppies shipped to me in the past few years. The puppies did well ... no problems. I'm from California and have had puppies come from Missouri, Ohio, and South Dakota. In a couple of months I'm hoping to get one from Michigan... hope things go as well for this new little one. |
I've shipped my bitch but I would "never" ship a yorkie puppy. Too each their own but if I want a puppy or a perspective puppy buyer wants one from me then they'll either have to come get them from me or fly me and the puppy there and of course my return flight. No if's and's or butt's! I just recently purchased a beautiful male from Canada and it was flown with the breeder's to NY and I was in NY for the Yorkie Nationals and the yorkie came home with me, too long of a trip to fly alone.
