AKC regitration glich? Hi! Not sure if this is the right place... but here goes. I sent off my pups' AKC form to get her registered and I got back a form that the breeder was also to receive a copy of. The form stated that there was only one female from that litter and she had already been registered! The breeder told me that AKC made a mistake there were two females from that litter. How difficult is this to straighten out? Will DNA testing need to be done on the Dams. Will I be able to register her? Thank-you |

AKC glitch Thank-you Mardelin. Your input takes away some of the anxiety. I really love my little girl.:) |

If it's important to you to have her AKC registered, keep in close contact with her breeder |

Update The breeder has assured me there is no problem on my end. I have the only female from the litter. The person who bought one of the males(breeder kept only other male) also bought a female from someone else. She is hoping an honest mistake was made. She thinks this person accidently mixed up the male and female on the papers! For some reason the sex boxes were not checked. Anyway since I do have the only female and she knows this, it will not be a prob. for Uma. |
Good, keep us posted. |
AKC glitch Well, the breeder has ordered some DNA test kits from AKC, and said I am to swab Umas' inside cheek and label envelope with her name sex and date of birth, and breed. I am then to mail this to her and she will send to AKC. She said it would take about 3 wks to find out. Apparently this mess up involves another female, and what concerns the breeder even more , a little male and 2 other owners! One owner is not communicating with anyone. That is the owner of the male. The breeder says the males DNA will need to be reistered on his 7th litter, and if all is not right oh what a mess! I will be so glad to have all this mess cleared up. I have never had this kind of thing happen to me befor, but I guess it had to be someone and looks like it was my turn. |
Akc This why so many breeders leave the AKC for "do as you please" registries...if anyone thinks these screw ups are rare, they are very mistaken..without the policing of records and DNA, it only takes about one generation for non-AKC pedigrees to become the figment of the breeders imagination...not because they are dishonest, but people make so many mistakes...and you have to trust what the stud owner or breeder of your stock tells you... AKC pedigrees are in no 100% correct, but they are the closest to being true as you can find...and if you have any doubts, the AKC will require DNA to try and correct the situation... |
AKC Glitch I am relieved that there will be DNA testing. The test is about the only way to know who Uma is. I am just heartsick if it turns out she is not who I was told she was. What if she is NOT AKC registerable. What if she doesn't have champion bloodlines. I love Uma and have told the breeder she will not be getting her back, but if she isn't who I was told she was I will be expecting a partial refund. I have never purchased a non AKC pup in my life. If I wanted one I would have sought one. However she is now a part of my family and I ccould not return her for worrying that she would not be as loved as she is here. I hate that this happened to me, but I guess it was bound to happen to someone. |
I would also ask the breeder that if no AKC papers can be gotten, then you want half the money back. If she advertised "AKC" puppies, and they aren't, then that is also false advertising. What you explained about the other person and the three pups and the mix up just doesn't sound on the up and up to me. |
AKC Glitch I was told by the breeder that 2/3 would be a fair refund if it doesn't turn out well for me and my Uma. What do you think? |

AKC Glitch How would I use this tracking number to check if the sample is sent? What worries me the most is the breeder is concerned more about the male than my female. I sympathize with her that by the 7th breeding and it comes to reg. his DNA and he is not who the papers say he is, then there could be a whole lot of owners going after her. However it is just as important to me that Uma is who I was told she was. How do I know the breeder won't open the envelopes and do something to insure the male works out O.K. Also, apparently, another breeder bought one ? of the pups in question. The breeder requested we both send pics of our babies. We both did. The breeder can not tell who is who. I just hope I don't get messed over in favor of the new owner/breeder, and I do not know how to insure the DNA samples are not tampered with. I asked the breeder couldn't I just send Umas' in from my home, she said no, she has to send it in. Also, she has asked if I work for AKC since I live close to the office. |
i would not trust that breeder to send the dna swab in. let her give you the test kit and mail it in yourself. She does not have to be the one to do it. YOU, as the owner, questioning who your girl is, have the right to do it. |
AKC Glitch She said she would have to be the one who mails it in. I would think as you said ,since it is my pup I Should be the one to mail it in. I asked her if my Vet. should administer the test and she said no. Just swab, label, package and return to her. Makes no sense to send to her. |

Good Luck, oh and she is willing to give you 2/3 of your money back, that seems like a bunch of money.. Do you trust her? |
:) After this mix-up, no, I don't. I want to trust her, but I am having probs. I am hoping she means well, she seems like a nice person. I would like to think requesting the DNA pkg. be returned to her would facilitate matters and that is her reasoning for wanting it sent to her. I think the other new owner is sending hers to the breeder. The breeder did tell me it would take approx. 3 wks after AKC received the samples to get an answer. She seems Knowledgable ab caring. The frantic concern about the male is making me nervous though. Also the owner who purchased two other pups was supposed to get one AKC pup and one APR pup, she has two AKC pups. |
DNA swabs have been sent off. I will know in 6-8 weeks. No matter what, I will always love my Uma. |

You'll probably know before then.....but at least you'll know..... |
update The breeder called yesterday. She said Uma was DNA'd, but now the AKC wants an additional sum to find paternity. The breeder said they did not use to charge an additional amount for paternity. Anyone know anything about this new practice? |
I dont know the real answer to the question but my opinion is you shouldnt have to pay anything more for someone elses screw up. I think the breeder should have to pay it. Its not your fault someone else registered their dog wrong etc. |
