Question about state inspection? I contacted a lady here in GA and im curious about what she said... She lives out in the country and breeds yorkies and maltese... She has a seperate house basically where she keeps her dogs its heat controlled and all that good stuff.. Looked great from the outside... BUt she told me she does not allow people to go in there because of infection etc and the state of GA who does the inspections says its not sanitary to let people where you keep your animals.. is this true?? Im just curious? Thanks! |
uummmmmm....I'm thinking somethin' smells, and it's not the dog house. |
Are you a breeder? |
Well she could just not want you to see the conditions the dogs live in but she does make a point parvo, Giardia and all sorts of other diesees and paracites can be carried on your clothing and shoes and if you go in and are contaminated it could be big trouble for her kennel |
Yeah Amber that was her point behind saying that but I was curious... So maybe it if legit? |
Couldn't she have some sort of area where you could see without going in? Sounds kind of suspicious to me too. |
She the brought the pups up to the house so we could see them... I didnt buy from her the pups were too big for me but I was just curious... The kennel was a silver steel looking building from looking at it there were no windows or anything... but who knows.. |
I have known some breeders that dont like people around their dogs because of infection , germs etc and wont let anyone handle the puppys,,,, But then there are those who dont want people to see the condition the area their dogs are in. some thing you may never know, unless you get to know her better. |
They just will not sell to you We go by certain rules here. It is called Conducts. |

if she brought the puppies out to see you, then wouldn't the puppies bring your germs back to the moms? cause I'm assuming she let you hold them, so wouldn't they get your germs either way? not that you have germs, but you get my point. lol |
breeder If she is a USDA licenced, not only is she NOT allowed to open her kennel to the public, but she is NOT allowed to have breeding dogs, puppies in her house..they must be kenneled in a separate building. Go to the USDA web site and read the rules and regs... |

Makes sense to me now, but maybe she could still at least show pics  |
hummm.... The breeder I am working with has some of the same concerns. She said I can see the pups and pick one out, but I am not allowed to handle them b/c susceptibility to disease. It sounds a little suspicious. My breeder says I can see them in their home, etc. Just not hold them or touch them in compliance with her vet's orders. |
breeders I do not agree with housing dogs separate. We are producing pets for pet lovers..they need to be in close contact with people from day one. ..but the USDA breeders have to follow rules or be shut down..the USDA feels raising dogs is no different the raising chickens... A USDA breeder as a rule does this for their main source of income..it is a business, rarely a hobby. I always allowed people into a common area to see my dogs...they were separated by a glass window like babies in the hopsital...that was for a view of my breeding dogs. I did not allow people to handle young pups under 8 weeks..but once they were 8 weeks, people could remove their shoes and come in to play with them... pick their pup and return at 12 to 16 to take it home...by then the dam was back to normal and could visit also... |
