Help from experienced Breeders Hi all, I am thinking about getting a male Maltese. I have a 15 month old male yorkie. What is your opinion on having 2 males in the same household? I have already put a deposit down on the maltese. I've heard different opinions. I just need some more information before I go further with this. Thanks ahead of time for all your suggestions. |
Does your male yorkie have a dominant personality? Or is he more submissive? Ask the maltese breeder what kind of personality your male maltese has. Having 2 males will most definately work as long as both of them don't have dominant personalities. I have a male lab and a male yorkie and my yorkie is the one with the dominant personality. My lab is very submissive, so it works. Just ask the maltese's breeder.......she'll know what kind of personality your little male maltese has. |

Reason I ask, is because this depends on the answer you'll get ;) Good luck...........and I'd love to see pics of the new guy :D Oh, and I am NOT a breeder. |
Hi...I'm not a breeder but I do have 2 males in the same house. I think it depends on the personality and attitude of the male you have now. Will they be neutered or left in tact? Jo was about 6 months old when we got Riley when he was about 4 months old. They are both neutered and get along like brothers...they don't fight, they snuggle and play...we've really had no issues, (except for Riley being nervous sometimes when Jo wants to play) they love each other and since they're neutered they don't mark. My boyz are now almost 27 months and 21 months and we have not had any dominance or aggression issues and they don't fight over things. I don't know if this is 'the norm' for a household with 2 males but that's how it is here. |
Hi, I've got two boys who love each other, they are best buds. Maverick loves to play tug of war with toys, and BamBam loves to pester him and try to take away his toys (he weighs four pounds to Maverick's twelve, he never wins, but he loves to try). They keep each other entertained when I'm too busy to play. I always heard that boys don't get along well, but they do great. Whitney |
Thank you all Kiki (my yorkie) loves other dogs. He is a very loving dog to other dogs. The breeder said that her maltese puppies are very calm and affectionate. I am feeling like they will be a good team. But, you never know until it happens. Kiki gets an attitude when you won't play with him and that is my biggest concern. The breeder has raised both maltese and yorkies. Thank you all for your thoughts. |
I have two male outside dogs. They get along great. |
Thanks again for all of your replies, Kiki is neutered and I do plan on getting the Maltese neutered also. I pray that it work out. I've heard so many different issues about this topic, I just thought I would ask. I thank every one for responding breeders and non-breeders. I just wanted to get a feel for what to expect. I will keep everyone posted and will send pictures of my new little guy along with some of him and Kiki together. Thanks again! I love YT! |
