12 week puppy size What would you guesstimate a 12 week puppy to weigh as an adult when its weighing 2.4 right now. Mom is 6lbs and dad is 5 1/2 ? |
I have always heard 12wk weight x's by 2 for minimum weight & by 2 at 16wks for maximum weight. |
My guess would be 5-6 lbs but you know its so hard to determine this young. I have a male that weighed 3.2 lbs at 5 months, he now weighs 3.8 lbs at 15months. I also have a female that weighed 2.5 at 11 wks and now 5.5 at 9months. I would also ask how many inches is her back length and height, this will give you an idea on her body size at this age as well. Especially if you will not be seeing her in person first. |
I'm hoping for 6 lbs :) |
Hi, I'm new to the forum so I thought I would start with your question. I asked everybody I met when my daughter got her new puppy what they thought his weight would be. We got him at 16 weeks and he weighted 4lb. 9oz. The breeder said he would be 5 1/2lb. and he is 6lb. 1oz. at 7 1/2 months old now. Just look at the feet. If their very small as dysons is then he will not be very big. Also someone told me that when they get to be about 6 months old that they are at their adult weight. My daughter was so worried about it and I told her no matter how much he weighs I know you are going to love him more then life and she does. Give many hugs and kisses. Dysons Grandma |
A judge showed me how to find the growth plate in the front legs to determine whether or not the legs were done growing. There's a place on the outside of the elbow where you'll feel two ridges one over the other. When the ridges are gone the growth plates have moved into position and the dog is finished growing. At 7 monthes my Remi is done but Cricket, who is also 7 monthes, still has a ridge so will continue to grow. I sure hope it proves to be true, at 12 weeks she weighed 2lbs. 5 oz. and at 7 monthes she weighs 3 lbs. 10 oz. I need her to grow quite a bit in order to breed her. I'd like her to grow a bit before a show her as well. Breeder says she's a late bloomer like her mom. I sure hope so, I'd hate to have to rehome her. She's a real cutie! As far as growth goes, you just really never know until they're done. :D :D |

My way to do it is doubling their weight at 12 weeks old and then add a 1/2 pound to it just to be on the safe side and to get right on the number or at least no more than the estimated . example 2.4 puppy at 12 weeks old. X 2 = 4.8 + 1/2 Pound (1/2= 8 oz.) estimate adult weight = 5 pound |
