ears I thought that is what you meant...but maybe you ran across another reason. You can almost always tell when it is hair, so I would not blame the breeder..it can happen to the best of them... |

Some really great info on this thread. I have one of those floppy eared, 12# Yorkies--but she was bought as a pet, not to be bred or shown, and she is one of the most wonderful pets we ever owned. |

Yes you'll need a gal that is around 7 lbs. What lines are your dogs out of? What are Galahad's assets and faults? Look for a gal out or a combatible line or the same line who will compliment him. I trained Remi and Cricket at the same time and your right it's not easy. They never stuck together, always ran off in different directions. If there's an accident you don't know who did it. Hard to tell who's getting it and who isn't. |
Just wanted to say thanks for everyone posting here. I've found a lot of useful and interesting information! :) Theresa |

You need to get the illustrated discussion of the yorkshire terrier by the YTCA. It goes through the standard with words and pics. I got mine at the show in NY but if you go on YTCA's website I think you can order it there. Compare Galahad with the standard and write down his faults both major and minor. For example, If he has say wide ear leathers (which are a dominant trait) you'll need to do a test breeding with a gal that has narrow ear leathers. If all the pups end up with wide ear leathers than Galahad would be homozygous for wide ear leathers. If you don't want pups with wide ear leathers you shouldn't breed Galahad because he will only throw wide ear leathers. Breeding is not just throwing 2 dogs together it is a science and a study in genetics. A good book to help you understand the genetics of breeding is The joy of breeding your own show dog by Ann Seranne. |

Here are some photos I took up close of Galahad, Let me know what U or other Breeders here think his Assets or Faults are? He's 13.5 months old. 6 lbs 6.2 oz. (I think I don't have the paper right here.) I would like to learn from him and try to breed to the best of the breed like U all do. But I need to know what to look for in a Yorkie. I went to the YTCA and printed all the info. off there to help me. What about his ears? His coat color, (I cut it to get it to grow out again, I wanted to see if it was gonna be silky like Tiffanies or Cotton like Teddys) What about his legs I think they might be cotton but can that be tamed? Or would that be considered a fault? I want honesty (Even if it hurts! LOL!, U know we all think our babies are the best but the truth is sometimes when it comes to the STANDARDS they really truthfully are not!!) Is his tail docked to short? Should I have this litter's tails a little longer? His eyes? His coat color? His Legs? His Height? I don't know U tell me. Please I truely want to learn. U know U said I might get the show bug, well I think I've got the better to breed to the standards bug, which is good. I want to do our breed justice and make them proud, which I am proud of my Yorkie's even tho they may not be up to standards. But I am learning so much here and this is what I yearn for to know what to look for, what is right, what is wrong. Thanks so much for ALL U're help and ALL the others help in Advance.
