Litter Registration How long after puppies are whelped does the breeder have to register the litter with AKC? I am looking at a pup that is 12 weeks old but the litter was never registered (parents are AKC registered). Is it still possible for the breeder to register the litter so that I can register the puppy with AKC? Thanks! |
There should be no problem registering the litter, as far as I know its not limited, but the pirce does increase greatly after one year. If they are under investigation or suspended they will not be able to register a litter until cleared. |
Akc It might be best to contact AKC..as I recall a breeder has 6 months at a regular fee...after 6 mont to 12 months it increases to about $100...and they do not guarantee to accept the breeders application. I think you must send breeding records, letter of explanation and a list of all new owners of the litters..some breeders do not keep record and it can be a problem.. After a year, I do not think they will accept, but perhaps it has changed again.. |

If a litter is AKC eligible ..............cant see a reason why they shouldnt be registered, pretty much immediately if there isnt some kind of problem. What do you think yorkierose? |
litter Breeders do all sorts of things...I have not registered a few litters if they were going to family or close friends as pets...or sometimes if there are just tinies or just one and I keeping for as small pet.. About 50 % of my puppy buyers did not want papers, even though the price was the same...they figured it was going to be spayed/neutered why give AKC the money? I used to send back the unused puppy litter applications once a year to AKC..and I always send back the papers of old ones that died and the papers for retired adults placed with no papers...WHY, because AKC inspected my records once and asked about a bunch of registrations I had in a file...I told them it was for the "Placed without papers and retired"..I was informed that if a dog is registered and the papers are not returned, I am still considered the legal owner in their eyes..meaning I had to keep a record of dogs I no longer owned..AKc is not too fond of breeders NOT giving papers..it cuts into their revenue..they want the new owner to pay the fee to register in their name...spay/neutered pet or not.. Hard to say..but I would get it sorted out before I bought the puppy if I wanted papers 100%. |
