ever had a yorkie with one ear standing and one not?
 
We taped Addies ears for 24 hours, one ear stood, the other didn't. So we shaved the ear and taped again, no luck. So we thought we'd wait a week and try again, again no luck.

she is almost 12 weeks old, could it be broken or something?

Both her parents ears were up

When Jewels was a puppy she had one ear up and one down. But by 12 weeks they were both up. I didnt tape or shave

It took Gracie forever for the second one to stand up, I think she was close to 4 months.

Lol...it can't be broken...there are not bones there to break. She is still plentl old enough for it to stand. I have a 4 month old who has one ear that started to flop over the past few days, so I get to fight that battle this weekend too.:rolleyes:

No, it can't be broken, although the cartilage can break down if not taped. Just keep taping. I tape for 5 days let rest for 2.

MY BABY FRANKSTER ISNT LIEK THAT BUT MY GERMAN SHEPARD IS, AND ITS SO FUNNY CAUSE HER ONE EAR IS POINTED HIGH INTO THE SKY LIKE A TYPICAL GERMAN AND HER OTHER EAR WAS EITHER THEY SAID BROKE OR INJURED SOMEHOW FROM HER PREVIOUS OWNER (BROKEN EAR :confused: )

yeah this is why i ask, because my parents GS also has one up and one down, it was aparently broken from one of his litter mates when they were just babies (thats what the vet suspects)

lol we are lucky if she keeps the tape on for one whole day!

ears go up and they go down...just keep working with it.

Keep it shaved and if taped properly she wont get it off. You have to leave the tape on all the time, only take it off to change to clean tape. The ear should look like a mummy, and the tape should be the kind that doesn't pull the hair when taken off. Keep it taped for at least a month to 6 weeks.

I am curious as to where you got such information? Everything I have read sayss 24 hours to three days. I can't imagine anyone leaving them taped for a month to six weeks. Please site your source. Thanks

my friend has a yorkie with the same problem, one ear up and one down. i was wondering how to tape the other ear, and what kind of tape do you use??? thanks sooo much!!!!:)

There is an article in Yorkshire Terrier Magazine by Jane Amman (think that's the spelling on her name) and she recommends it to stay up that long.

I tape, leave up 5 days and down 2, retape if needed, leave up for 5 and down 2.

LOL ears can't be broken. We had a puppy who had one up and one down. I think the other would've gone up if it had the chance. Good luck!

My goodness!!!!!!!!! I learn something every day. BUT, I would never leave my baby's ears taped for a month. Poor little thing. I have one I am working on right now. both parents, all littermates have erect ears. This one keeeps going up and down. more down than up. I tapee for three days then rest for two. Within hours after I remove the tape, the ears are flopped dowwn. They play soo rough and drag each other around, I wonder if that is causing it?

Playing around and dragging each other is not what causing it. Their little bodies are growing so fast and teething, zapping a lot of calcium.

When Pixie was younger, I was always worried because they wouldn't stick up (although I loved the floppy ear look!) That was before I found this forum for support.... And I didn't know how to tape them.
I just trimmed the hair on her ears so that it would be lighter, and by 4 months, one ear stood up, and by 5, the other was up also.

I hope this is the case with my new 12 week old puppy. Both ears are standing one very erect, but the other one though up is kind of floppy on the middle outer edge (if you can picture that) I tried taping it yesterday but it just made it flop MORE. The tape was too heavy I guess. I am keeping it shaved. I guess I should just wait but I don't want to wait too long...

Itis not unusual at all. She may be teething and that is a time they may go up and down. Sadie got one up, then both, then the first one up drooped and finally they both stood up nice and straight. Ben (in my avatar) came home with both standing and they never drooped. Here is one of Sadie with her one up/one down fashion statement:

Same with Ferdinand... I didn't tape or shave either. You can kind of see his one ear down in my avatar. It had started to stand up more when that pic was taken though.

So, do you think I should just keep it shaved and wait? She probably is teething she wants to chew on things. Or should I try taping it again or the Breathe Right Strips? I guess I am just anxious that I will wait too long and it will never be up strong. They are both up, just the one is a little floppy on the sides.

My Desi is 2 years old, she has one ear up and the other down. When she was a puppy, both ears were down and I taped them on and off for more than 3 months. One ear stayed up but the other ear never did. I think she looks so cute with her floppy ear.

I tried again! (she seriously won't keep the tape on for more than a day, we tried scotch tape and it came off right away so we have mainly been using medical tape)

Anyway they stayed up for a whole day, it was too cute. Then she went to bed and woke up with it floppy again....ugh!

It's completely shaved, whats up with this? The other ear stayed up after the first taping weeks ago and has never gone down.

I tried using tape and it seemed to make the ear flop more. So I went out and bought false eyelash adhesive and then used heavy paper cut to the ear shape and "glued" it inside the ear. She still didn't leave it on more than a day, but after that one day it was much stronger than before. Still a little bit weak, but not floppy. I was going to reglue it, but didn't get around to it and now (a few days later) it is just as strong as the other one.

kirby's didn't stand up until he was 4months...then it would be one up one down then both up but finally they both stood up
