Do you shave the ears of your litters?
 
I know some breeders do and some don't. If you do...at what age do you shave them?

I stated shaving the ears of my last litter at 3-4 weeks old. The first litter they were about 5-6 weeks old. It was amazing how much hair they had on their ears at 3-4 weeks old so I think that is going to be what I do from now on. It seemed to work well.

Do you shave the entire ear at that age or just the top 1/3?

Shaving the ears takes the weight of the hair off of the ears and helps them to stand up.

I shave the whole thing for the first couple weeks and then after that, I just do the top 1/3 of the ear. The hair grows back so fast so it doesnt matter.

Thanks everyone for your input!!!! I shaved hers tonight...she did fine :) Until I got to her little hiney.. She was NOT happy !!! Oh did she scream!

We shave 1/3 of the tops off at about 3-4 weeks.

I shave mine at about a week old. The whole ear. Once they stand good.. I just do the top.

I don't shave the hine. I use baby manicure scissors and clip around the opening.

Yes, I shave the ears and clip the hairs around the opening as Mardelin stated.

I shave ears starting at 3 wks. I've also found the sooner you start the better they do with it as they get older. Have you ever seen a 12 wk old or up who's never had their ears groomed? They usually totally freak out.

I take the other end of my small hand held trimmers and touch it to their rear, their hips, ect before going directly to the ear (while turned on). I think this shows them that the trimmer itself is not going to hurt them.

I didn't "shave" her little booty, I "trimmed" it with these tiny cordless trimmers I have. Just a little to prevent messes down there. She just didn't like it at all! :)
I also trimmed the hair between her pads as well.

I do shave the little booty's. One neat strip.
Wish you were closer to me, I'd love to have someone help me with paw pads at times!:D THAT'S what mine truly dislike!:)
