bathing a mother Hey my yorkie just had 6 puppies 3 girls and 3 boys they are all doing fine just wondering when can I bath the mother after she had puppies |
Congratulations!!! I usually wait a week before bathing mom..... Best of luck with your six-pack!! :) |
Congratulations! Hope mother and babies are all doing well. |
Hi, My girl had 1 puppy on 12/21 and she got diareha and went all over in the playpen and got it on her bed and all over her, so I've already given her a bath. I used a mild puppy shampoo. She did fine. |
My Mom Got A Messy Poop And It Got On Her To I Have Washed Her Off But Still Smells Bad She Had Her Pups On Dec 23 So Do You Think I Should Wait A Few More Days To Bath Her I Will Be Taking Her To The Vet Just To Check Her Out On Tuesday Didnt Want Her To Go Dirty Thanks To All I Am So Excited About My Pups Have Not Sleep Much Keep Checking On Them Alot If They Make Any Sounds I Am Awake They All Are Doing Really Good |
typically I do butt and lower wash when needed this first week, then weekly baths unless bottom area needs it more often...you can use UNSCENTED baby wipes daily...which helps a lot...just make sure there is no residue on the teats and never use a flea or medicated shampoo while nursing... congrats on the new kidlets |
Nope, I don't think there's an issue w/ bathing the mom right away if she's had a natural birth. The only thing you've really got to watch out for are shampoos heavily laden w/ dyes and perfumes and that you rinse her SUPER well afterwards and dry her completely before returning her to her pups. Your vet should tell you the same if you call them. You can use baby wipes too, only issue is that they won't *clean* her fecal matter off of her properly, they also leave a residue that youdon't see, but the puppy's will ingest. Not a BIG deal, I've done it myself, just as a preference, I'd wash her instead! jm2c (by the way, if you have access to it, I'd recommend using Tropiclean's puppy shampoo. It's a coconut based shampoo w/o the soap, dyes and perfumes) |
The only problem with bathing too soon, is you can cause undue stress on mom, which can cause a problem with milk supply. I usually don't bathe until pups are two weeks, when mom is more apt to leave babies for a short period. |
I Also did a 'rear end' wash up and thats all. But since my Trini had a C-Section I used a warm damp towel. I would clean her up...just be gentle and quick and hopefully she enjoys baths, so it won't stress her (if you know she does not like baths don't give her one). :p |
