Lady Had A C Section!! Well it was Labor and the Vet got here in time he got here just as the contractions started the first bubble came out and never finished coming out! The Vet gave her 40 min of pushing and then he fingered her and told me the puppy was with one foot out and the other in and that this way they would not be able to come out so we rushed into the hospital and he did a c section it took for ever for them to come out like two hours or more finally he came out with two puppies!! Unfortunately he could not save three of them I cried sooooo much to see them!!!! But we are home with two puppies and Lady is doing fine. I am now just having a really hard time having one of the to eat!! So I am working on that I called my Vet and he is on his way over here to help me get that puppy to eat! I am soooooo sad for the three that did not make it they were 2 girls and 1 boy the ones that made it are two beautiful boys!!! |
I think you must have a very special vet. Good luck with the remaining puppies. Please let us know how you are doing with them. |
I am so sorry to hear about loosing three pups. I know how you feel since Easy lost one just 2 weeks ago. I have two left too. At least mom is well and you are so lucky to have a vet that will come to your home. Wow! I may be lucky in th future since I live just down the road from a Wildlife Preserve that my vet takes care of all their animals. Easy sirst pup was breech too and facing the wrong direction - this is called Posteria. In most cases it warrents a C=section. We were just very lucky I could reach inside and turn it with each contraction. Then was able to also unhook the elbow and the pup made it out. Well, so glad to hear all is fine. Keep the pups warm and keep working with the one on the nipple. Sometimes you have to let a little milk out and then open the pup's mouth a little over the nipple to let it taste it. Any time you have a C-section the pups get a little of the anesthia and it takes a little for the pups to be up to par. Let us know how it goes. Best Wishes, T. |
It's always difficult to hear of puppies not making it but at least you did the right thing to save mom and a couple of the pups. Hopefully that one will start eating and fattening up. Congratulations on your new grandoggers! |
Congratulations!! I am so sorry that all the pups didn't make it.... It seems like you have a real caring vet (makes house calls?). Best of luck with the two new pups. Congrats!!! :animal36 :animal36 |
OMG! I wasn't expecting to read this !!! Wasn't she early as well ? Do you know why the 3 pups didn't make it ? I'm so sorry! Glad to hear mom is doing good. Wow. Well keep us posted on how everyone is doing. Sometimes if you take some of your own saliva and rub it on the moms nipple the pup will latch right on. Weird, I know but it works. Made my pup go crazy trying to get on. I read this in all my research and it works. Our pups almost have the same birthday! One day apart ;) |

Did your vet show you how to tube feed or tell you about administering NutriDrops, or glucose. |
If the pup is still not nursing - you can tube feed if he is too weak to latch on to even a bottle. At this age - if he was weak and still not nursing I would tube feed. Just be very careful and have your vet go over the directions carefully. Breeding Your Own Show Dog, by Ann Seranne has a great section in there on tube feeding. I use this when I had to tube feed a litter back in the 80's. Just make sure you check the needed measurements and ajust as needed. Let us know how things are going. Our prayers are out there to you! After having a very bad experience in loosing three of our babies now these two new family members are making us happy every moment that passes. Lady and the two baby boys are doing fine they eat much and Lady is doing ok with the c-section Tomorrow we are going to the Vet he called me today to ask how they are doing and he said that we can do the tails and dew claws tomorrow. Thanks to all of your prayers we are now doing better! :) |
i am sorry for your loss but very happy that you still have lady and the two puppies. i bet they are the best!!! |
The same situation happened with my Trini and her pups. She had the C-Section and we lost two and two survived. We now have two sweet 4 1/2 week old boys. Trini didn't want to feed them at first and my vet told me to gently hold her down and pet her and help the puppies nurse. It was very hard for the first two days because I felt I was being unfair to my Trini but the vet explained to me that she had to learn and it would all be okay and hopefully she would feel up to feeding them on her own, and she did. My smaller boy would not latch on and I had to bottle feed him every two hours, it is a long story but I learned a little trick that might help you: I had to let the bigger brother suck and get the nipple hard and "ready" for the smaller one and then I would gently open the little one's mouth by working my fingers to where the back of the mouth is and pressing the jaw gently & slowly open and latch him on. He got the hang of it on his own after a few days but for the first two weeks I made sure he got latched on. Hope it helps...PM me if you have and more questions...keep us updated!!:p |
Congrats on the little ones! My little Lucy goes in on the 8th for her x-rays to see how many little pups we will have. I hope and pray things go well for her. Again, congrats on the little cuties! |
I am sorry to hear that you lost puppies. I am happy to hear that you have 2 healthy ones remaining and that Mamma is doing so well. My Tiah had a c-section 3 months ago. Pay close attention that they are using the lowest 4 teats and that they don't start getting "lumpy". You don't want Mastitis to set in. The pups weren't using Tiah's lowest 2 teats for some reason so I layed her on her back on my legs while sitting on the floor and made sure the pups nursed from there. Also make sure to gently wipe her belly with a warm wash cloth atleast once a day. If you have any c-section questions, it is still very fresh on my mind and I'll help any way I can. |
