Mating question I am trying to mate winston with a female that is in her 11th day of heat. She stands and puts her tail to the side but all winston wants to do is lick her. I have tried to mount him and she stands very still but he does not seem to get it. Please help. |
male Some males take time to be a good stud dog...there is not much you can do to get them to breed if they are not trying. |

Take her advice :) She helped me when I was having the same problem and now I'm currently expecting :) Thanks Sugar's Mom ! |
this has always worked for me......give them both a bath. when they go crazy after getting the bath, the male usually will mount the female. try this and i hope it works. if not, he may not be interested in studding at this time. how old is he? is this his first? |
He is 14 months old and yes this is his first time. Our Sophie ended having legg perthes disease and went into heat before we had time to get her fixed and he was all over her. I had to watch the two of them every minute. So I thought he was going to make a great stud. I brought Sadie to our house and have been just trying to get her adjusted to a different home but I will seperate them and try the bath and see if anything happens. Thank you all for your suggestions I really appreciate it. |
any other suggestion are greatly appreciated!!!! |
how long has sadie been at your home? is she staying there or just being dropped off? |
I bet she's not ovulating yet. The males just know most times. We read that about average cycle and start feeling that pressure for them to mate on days 9, 11 and 13: But sooo many dogs don't fit the same mold. I do recommend seperating them and bringing them together a couple of times during the day to check, I bet in a day or so (could be more) he shows more than just "butt-sniffing interest" |

Sadie is going to stay with us a couple of days. She is so cute and we are falling in love with her. Sadie does stand and will move her tail to the side and will let us put winston on her but he just does not seem to get it. I went on debbie Jensen site and read up on what to do, but I think the more we try the less winston in interested. We did seperate them but no luck. I think tomorrow we will try the bath. Any other suggestions? |
you shouldn't breed a female with lcp it's hereditary if i'm not mistaken http://www.vetsurgerycentral.com/legg_calve.htm |
sometimes the dogs need time to get use to eacthother and the "new" surroundings . |
baths I would not bathe them JMO...I did stud service for 35 yrs...the first thing I told the bitch owner was NOT to bathe the dog..the male guages breeding by scent...that is what draws them to the btich..the smell...it could just be a bit early...and some males will not breed unless the bitch is at prime time... I would keep them separate..that is a given for good breeding..Good Luck |
