The big day is closer!!! More questions
 
The big day is getting closer and closer I think I have everything ready for the whelping thanks to all the advice received! :D
Now I have questions on what I need to do when the puppies come out???
I have no idea I was reading some posts about fluid and cleaning PLEASE I need help I have no clue on what to do. :eek:
Any advice???

No! :( I read about a video I know I should have gotten some but I dont think I can order any now I dont think they will get here in time :confused:

There is plenty online reading about whelping, do a google search on whelping. You will get some wonderful help that you can print out and refer to as the time draws near or when you're in the middle of whelping and need some advice.

In the meantime go to debbiejensen.com She has great information in there.

Make sure that your vet will be available for you if you run into an emergency. Is there anyone near you that may be able to help you?

Do everything you can do to prepare yourself and your soon to be mommie. Remember this her and her puppies lives on the line and in your hands. So if you need to call someone in the middle of the night do so.

Yes I have already talked to my Vet the thing is he lives far from my house and I am afraid that this will go on on Christmas eve or day and this will surely be a problem hard to find help in these days! :rolleyes:

When the puppy comes out I break the sack?? and then aspirate?? and then cut the cord?? what do you do with the placenta??
Sorry I just want to make sure I know what to do :confused:

If you've clamped the hemostat onto the cord gently ease the placenta out and toss it. Some people advocate letting the mom eat it. I've found it causes diarreah. There are different rules of thumb here.

Thanks so much! I have done much reading and have learned alot of thing I had no idea would happen thanks so much for all the advice!!
I will keep asking as thing pop up in my head I hope its ok with you :confused:
We had X-ray day yesterday and my Vet said we will be having 4 but he said it could probably be 5 he also got a little concern because the size of the heads are just the size of the birth canal he said the puppies are big so he said if she pushes for a long period of time and the puppy does not come out I have to call him immediately because we would have to do a c-section
So I got more scared!!!

i heard that you should let them eat at least one placenta because there is a chemical that will start the mom to produce milk( i am no expert) But just curious

When mom is taken to the vets the next day for an Oxytocin (POP) shot it does the same thing, plus cleans her out.

Ask away, I'll do my best to answer, and if I can't I'll get the answer from an expert.

I think with this size litter, all should go smoothly. The only thing you'll have to watch after they're born is making sure all nipples are being nursed on and no one is getting knocked off. But, most of all making sure that she gets enough calcium in her diet. Not no but, after she whelps......cottage cheese, goats milk @ egg, whelping pudding, besides her regular food.
