Saturday is XRAY day !!! I'm guessing there are 2 little ones. We shall see on Saturday!!! The time is getting close. Her estimated due date is 12/20 !!! |
Oh.. she is getting closer. Keep us posted. Good luck for a smooth whelping...:) |
How exciting! My girl is due a couple weeks after yours. She's getting so big. I'm guessing 5 from what I palpated in the beginning (I normally don't even venture to count, but since I was there..., watch I'll be soooo wrong. |
I felt movement last night and it was so neat :) I don't think she looks very big, not like how big my Chi was , and she had 4. So I'm thinking she's not having many. I'll have to try and take a pic and post it and see what you all think of her belly :) |
Are they going to sedate her ? |

My last litter I had two ultra sounds and 1 xray and they never sedated???? |
<---- a little jealous, my "puppy" will arrive in March of '07 I think the person who asked about the sedation was just curious. Sedation is often used when taking x-rays. Just in this case, I'm sure they wouldn't. If she were to be too wiggly, which as wide as she may be now, she may not fight at all, ;) then they would simply not do the x-ray or just have her on her side...which is more common anyway. CONGRATS! I hope she has a smooth delivery and you've GOT to post up some photos of the new mommy and her wee ones when you get a chance. ;) |
When I set the apt they ask me if she would be cooperative. I just figured if she isn't I would ask for the ultra sound instead, although they are not as accuate but dang are they awesome to watch!!! AND you can see the hearts beating!!!! Maybe he will do both again :) He did them for free last time. But no, I wouldn't let them sedate her. I will deffinatley post pictures! :) |
Okay, it's GOTTA be the hormones. I'm actually "giddy"! wtf? This is crazy. And that IS exciting, take care of momma! And yourself too! ;) |
I've never heard of them sedating a female for an x-ray or ultra sound. I like the ultra sound because they can move around and not have to remain completely still. Plus,. the vet can keep going until they've seen all they need to. The downside I've found is you can count a pup on one side and it may move to the other and get counted twice...as was the case with us. |
When not pregnant, many vets will use a mild sedative on a dog while doing x-rays. Especially if the x-ray is for PennHip slides or OFA slides. That way the vet can place the dog on it's back and get proper extension of the limbs w/o causing undue stress and discomfort on the dog. If the dog weren't sedated, they may resist and the x-ray often doesn't come out clear or accurate. jm2c But naturally, they wouldn't do this w/ a pregnant female. HEY! If they do an ultrasound of the pups, ask them to print out a photo! If there machine is capable, and many are, how great would that be? I'd LOVE to see 'em! :p |
