Funny thing. . . When I had my last litter, I was concerned because I didn't get the "flood" of calls that I was told I would probably get, people wanting to buy them, put deposits on them to "save one for" them. Anyway, don't get me wrong, they all were sold by 11 weeks old, and all went to WONDERFUL homes. Could not have asked for better homes for my babies. Here's what's funny, if you will: since I sold my last pup, I have had call after call after call, and even my mentor called me to see if I had any pups available. I even have 2 people on a "wait list", wanting me to call them as soon as my next litter is born. Now, how strange is that? But, as I'm typing this, I'm now thinking that maybe the influx of calls is because people are wanting "Christmas pups". . . You think? If that's the case, then I'm actually GLAD I didn't have any available. The whole "I want to give my kids a pup for Christmas" scares me, since it's a 15-18 year commitment, not just a "SURPRISE!!!" on Christmas morning. Ok, thanks for letting me yak your ears off! |
It could be that people are wanting "Christmas pups" or it could be that so many people saw your pups from your previous litter and were referred by those who purchased puppies from you already. I know literally dozens of people have asked for my breeders # after seeing Hootie and Hobbs. |
If everyone that has contacted me bought a pup, I would have to have a dozen litters. But when you get right down to it, 9 out of 10 are just talking. When you get ready to sell or take deposits, those that showed an interest before aren't usually around. At least that's the way it is for my husbands beagles. i hope i don't have to keep all my pups. But on the other hand, they are really sweet and pretty!!!!!!!! |
That is true - - people do talk big, but bow-out when money is due. And you are right. A few of the callers got my name/number from my buyers. |
I have to agree with that. I get them emailing wanting a certain puppy so bad but then you email them back and start asking questions and trying to find out a bit about them to see what kind of a person they are and if they are familiar with yorkies and so on, so you can decide if they would be good parents for your puppies, then most of them tend to diasppear. They don't even take the time to write you back and tell you they changed their minds. You are lucky you are getting them sold so quickly. It is very slow here in Colorado for alot of breeders now. |
My husband said someone at his office asked him if I had a female puppy available. He said no, but that I should have another litter in February. Then he told her that she would have to pass through a rigorous interview process before she was selected by me to get the priviledge purchasing one of my babies. He said the lady just laughed, then he said "No, I'm serious." Then, she said that she just wanted her little 2-year-old daughter to have a puppy to grow up with. My husband said "Well, you probably won't make the first cut, then, with a toddler." I appreciated my husband being honest, but then again, he isn't doing much on the marketing side for me, now, is he??? ;) |
I advertised my litter in September and got practically no bites. They did all find wonderful homes, but I've had two calls in one week from strangers looking. I'm also kindof glad I don't have any left. |
