911 Help have a yorkie pup born about 4 hours ago. Took her to vet. Vet said she wont make it. born to soon. She has no hair. She is breathing. She tries to suck but has to open mouth to breath. she moves her legs. Vet said for me to just put her and mama in a box and let nature work it out. Mama is ok. The other 2 pups did not make it at all. I want to help. She wants to eat. I have puppy milk here.. and a eye droper but dont want to get it in her lungs. What should I do. she wants to try to live. HELP!! Christy |
OMg I have no idea.... BUMP someone experienced HELP HER! |
That is heartbreaking, chances are your vet is right. If the puppy does not have hair it was born way to early. You would probably need to tube feed this baby and put it on oxygen support and still the chances would be very low. It is just not developed enough. I wish your vet and I can be wrong. Prays for your puppy, I hope it does not suffer. |
I wish I could help .... the only thing I can offer is prayers for this little one! God bless you and your tiny baby ... we will be praying for her! |
Debi is right. Tube feed is very difficult - you have to be bery careful to not puncture the lungs, so measurement is very important. My guestion is why did your female go into labor so early. What caused her to. Has your vet checked her out throuoghly? I am sure he has. I am also afraid that you may lose this last one puppy too. They are just so young and chances are she won't make it. You will need ahuge miracle. My prayers go out to you and your family. T. |
This is so sad. I hope the the little one makes it |
I am so sorry for your losss of the other puppies. I agree with the others. There is an almost nil chance that the living baby has. just way too early sounds like. |
Thanks for all the posts. The little girl is still with us. I have got her to suck some on the mother. I have to press on the mamam and she drinks. I have used the eye droper some also with my milk replacer. She tries to get up and latch on but is so small. My vet checked mama out and gave her a shot of antibotics and sent me home some also. We plan on fixing her... I never want this to happen again. I dont know why she went to soon. We had her to go on 12-12 Any more tips would be a help. Should I take the baby in to the vet again.. since she made it all night? Thanks Christy |
I can't help but if you search this section - There are some threads that offer recipies for supplemental feeding but I have no idea what you should be doing....I just wanted to say that's truly sad you lost the other puppies and she is so underdeveloped - that's got to be heartbreaking :( :( :( :( |
we lost her. :( We lost her. She was doing better.. I thought...but she was just to small. Thanks for your prayers and help. :( |
I am so sorry you lost her |
I am so very sorry. |
:( :( :( :( :( I'm so sorry |
I am so very sorry for your loss, I have lost puppies like this before and it is so hard. Breeding is not always fun and things do not always go as they should. I am glad this puppy did not suffer to long in its passing. God speed little ones. |
mama This is the first time we have lost one like this. It is sure not fun! I feel so sorry for the mama.. she is going nuts! I dont know how to help her. I am strarting to think .. she thinks I still have it. Poor mama.. she even turned down cheese!:( |
If she doesn't settle down soon the vet can give her a bit of ACE to calm her down. It is like Valium for dogs |
Sorry for the loss. Let her grieve. I'd spend as much time w/ her as you possibly can and take away all the bedding and material that you were using when the two of them were together. Help get her mind focused on other positive things than dwelling on where her baby might be. She may already have a sense that she's not coming back. Does she sleep w/ you? If not, you may want to consider that for a little while. Poor girl. She'll be back to herself in a short time. It's always, tough and each dog grieves differently just like people. Some don't seem to be effected at all at these times. In either case, I'd spoil her w/ attention right now, not food. Take care- |
I'm sorry for your loss. |
I am so sorry for your lose. At that age - their lungs are not fully developed. I am so sorry. Make sure you have gotten rid of all the towels, bedding (wash) so she doesn't smell the pup. This is one of their highest sense and even if the pup is gone they do leave their scent for awhile. Also go and buy a small little toy - soft and small to take the place of her pup. Make sure you transfer the pup smell to it (rub against the blankets it was in. It may help the mama. It will just take time. Dogs do grieve! :cry2: T. |
I have washed up the bedding.. gave her a new stuff toy.. she liked it at first..but left it. We are trying to spoil her. She is resting for now. Thank you for all the help! Christy |
Oh this is soooooooo sad! I hope your Mommy feels better soon. It's just too bad that they didn't make it! :( |
I am so very sorry for your loss. Sending hugs :ghugs: |

I'm Sorry you lost the baby..I have been there . It just breaks your heart to see mom suffering looking for her baby. It will take her awhile to get over it. Just keep on loving and holding her, try to get her interested in something else. ((((Hugs to you both)))) |
