One Day Heat My female has been in heat for 1 week. My male has tried repeatly to breed. No luck. How long will she stay in heat. |
Please find a local responsible, knowledgeable breeder to mentor you. An uneducated eye can miss the first signs of heat. A one day heat is out of the normal. There is "split heat" but the female comes back into heat in a coupla weeks. You cannot depend on your male to tell you the progress of your female..Don't be surprised if he becomes interested in her again. But if you don't know about the breeding of Yorkies, I would suggest you make sure this heat cycle(?) goes without breeding. Between now and the next 6 months or so, educate yourself about the process of mating, gestation, whelping and the difficulties and possibilities of dire outcomes... |
And if it's her first heat, do not breed her that early. At least wait until her second. |
Breeding Well she came into heat for appox 3 weeks. My male drove by husband crazy. I don't think she let him breed her. I'm keeping a close eye on her. Keep you posted. |
Some females ovulate ealy in the cycle and some really late. Usually the middle week is the fertile period. For the future, I would suggest you keep them separated during that time so that an accidental breeding does not take place. A male can be injured badly if the female drags him around or worse, pulls him off of the furniture while still tied. Hold the two of them for the length of the tie for safety..and supervise the mating so there willl be no questions about due date, etc.. |

On average, the heat lasts 3 weeks. Best ovulation period is 9-14 days, but Gracie didn't take till the 17 day. I highly recommend not breeding her during her first heat. |

There are several good breeders on YT. You might want to drop one of them a PM. |
I watch my kids for a full 3 weeks. He chase, tried and she never helped him out. I don't think they ever mated. I know I never saw it. Maybe she just didn't let him? |
I surely hope they didn't tie, but you will know in about 63 days...Of course, sometimes there is a false pregnancy sometimes and another condition-pyometria.. Thank goodnes the last one is less common but still I think you are wise to keep a close eye on her for any changes in behavior...JMHO |
