Breeders, I have a question about my little male. Jo-Jo has only dropped one 'jewel'...I'm not sure why he's hanging on to the other one but he is. How long should I wait to see if the second one drops? I've heard a couple different timelines but I'm not sure if the small breeds are different. A month ago he was 2.7 at the vet so he's maybe about 3 pounds now and 5 months old as of May 2nd. I know this can cause problems in the future and that it's hereditary...I have no intentions of breeding. What is a good age for neutering? |
neuter i've heard good ages to neuter are anytime after 6 months. i dont know how true that is though. i neutered my yorkie a little before 6 months. (about 5 1/2 months). |
6 months old is the age for neuter . |
I have a similar question. I have heard 6 months to neuter also - but Tucker is almost 5 months and neither of his testicles have dropped. Do I just have to wait it out? |

Hi Biddy's mom , My friend Lynn have a Yorkie with the same problem as yours , her vet asked her to wait until he was 6 months old . Snoopy recovered very well from the surgery . |
Thanks Olivier. This makes me feel better - I just worry about my little guy! |
your best time to neuter is when all the adult teeth have come in which is usually from 6-8 months at the same time have any double teeth removed. As far as one jewel down give it time the other should drop how old is he? hope this helps |

jojo puppy teeth are 28 adult teeth 42 they begin losing puppy teeth at about 12-14 weeks and @ about 30-40 weeks all the adult teeth should be in. |
Thank you Kimberly. My two little clowns must be hiding them or swallowing them because I haven't found any baby teeth but I've seen some empty spots. I'll have the vet check them the next time we go in and see how they're doing. |
Hi, My mom had a Golden Retriever who she got really cheap as a puppy because only one had dropped. I think she got him at around 8 weeks or so? But he still hadn't dropped it at about a year old. When she took him to get him neutered they charged her what they charge for a spay, and he recovered really easily. They just go in and get it. :) |
A good age to neuter is 1) when your vets says it is best and 2) when the retained teeth need to be extracted. Your guy is lucky to have such a concerned mommy. Make sure your vet does a pre-op blood panel to rule out possible problems related to the anesthesia. We are all in agreement that a little after 6 months is pretty much the ideal age. |
