Too Big
 
Hi, Lulu my female weighs 2kg and Webster, Male, 3kg. Lulu is now on heat and I would like to know if Webster will be too "big" for her to mate. Someone
told that the male carry the genes and the size depents on the male. Is this true?:D

I think I've got this right...
2kg= 4.5 lbs
3kg= 6.5

Is that right? If so, then as far as his weight goes, he's within standard.
Physically can it be done? I don't see why not. We have no idea what her structure looks like. If she's a light boned and petite female that's just considered heavy at 4.5 then I'd say don't breed her-especially to this male.

As far as the "size" gene, lol, that can come from either side of the genetic tree(s), it doesn't neccessarily come from the sire!

There is more to weight than just the weight of the dad. It matters what is in his background. I would never personally consider breeding a 6.5 male to a 4.5 female no matter what's in the background. I would also be very careful in breeding a 4.5 female and have her checked by a vet to determine the width of her pelvis. I breed a 4 3/4 pound with no problems, but she is built for breeding with very wide hips. I breed her to a 3 pound 14 oz. male with only 3 and 4 pounders in his background.

I wouldn't breed a male that much larger to a female that size. I think you would be asking for complications. I agree with the other poster that a Vet should examine the female to make sure that she should be bred at all.

Here is what i don't understand. If you are not supposed to breed for tiny puppies, then why use a male that produces 3 to 4 pund off spring?

Just a question, not being judgemental.

with a small female you need a same size or smaller male, a bigger male may cause bigger puppys that the female could not have, it may kill her! that's what i think not entirely sure though!

All of my puppies have reached 4 pounds (barely in some cases), but all have been healthy. It might not be popular with some, but this is what people want, myself included. Would I continue to produce these 4 pounders at maturity if they weren't healthy? - NO, absolutely not, but as long as they are I don't see a problem with it. Four pounds is still within AKC standards.

No offense taken - I am guilty of breeding for tiny puppies as charged.

Her puppies could be big no matter what the sire or dam weigh... it has to do with genetics... or better yet.. genetics has to start some where... like a woman that is 4ft having a 5-6 ft child... when he/she is grown.. you just never know..
I think she is small... but if you are comfortable and trust your vet... ask him or her and go from there...

I think it's wrong to breed a tiny FEMALE for tinies, because she shouldn't be bred if under 5 lbs. But I don't see anything wrong with breeding a smaller male to a bigger female because the female is strong enough to carry them to term and hopefully have healthy parents. It doesn't sound like she's tinies, because 4 lbs is still within standard.
