yorkie bred at 10 mths Hi have a question for you breeders. I had a call the other day a lady called and said that her 10 mth old yorkie got bred by accident to another yorkie it is her first heat, I didnt know what to tell her but am scared for the little female to birth pups at 1 yr old .should she get a shot to end it or should she leave her, I felt it was too early to have pups but then I am no specialist in this area either told her I would get back to her within a day or two, I beleive you have to recieve the shot before 10 days is this correct? What do you think? Please give me some helpful advise for her. I told her about this site and I think she was afraid of what people would think about her, so I told her I would inquire. |
breeding I would tell her to have her spayed now. I think it is too late for a shot and they are not 100% effective I am told. Pups will be born when the mother is a year...not ideal by any means, but if she has her spayed after the pups are weaned it should not shorten her life span. The problems come with breeding too young AND continuing to breed...the bitch is worn out, usually loses all her teeth and health problems set in. |
Just talked to her again and took the little one to vet he recommended spaying her and that is what she did all went well.Dont understand how those little accidents happen sometimes when my girls are in heat and I do not want them bred they are not around any males and they are watched like a hawk when going outside to go potty. We keep gates up all over the house that and good supervision is pretty effective birth control, at least that works well for me ,dont know what everyone does. Was nice to have at least 1 reply right away and you were right on the bullseye Thank you |
