What is the pricing of yorkie pups and how is it determined?

the prices vary greatly for different region you live in. Prices are usually based on quality, size, bloodline and what the going price is in your area.

Here in NW Florida, I found Yorkie pups being advertised anywhere from $600 to $2000. Champions in their bloodline seemed to have some to do with the pricing but more than that, I saw those who took breeding serious, making sure not to breed any problem traits/genetic medical tendencies usually charged a bit more. Hobby breeders that just had a litter or two a year seemed to charge the least and sometimes did not have much lineage information. Often the lower priced Yorkies were CKC registered instead of AKC.

I also saw just a little different look to the puppies and parents. I had a particular look in mind before I started and price was not going to sway that. I looked to the parents and made my selection. The parents that seemed to have the silkiest coats and the best markings, the cutest faces, the most love of human interaction, also had puppies towards the higher end.

I bought a male and have a deposit on a female from two different home breeders that both seemed to have a genuine love for their pets and took extra care in their breeding. They both made almost as many inquiries to me as I did to them -- making sure their Yorkie pups were going to good homes. Each took care not to overbreed or breed their mothers too young. Both had clean homes where their Yorkies got to be a part of the family and not spend their lives in cages. I paid $1200 for the male and will pay $1500 for the female. The latter will go up to $2000 on her next litter -- and she deserves to get it. Her Yorkies are beautiful and so well cared for. She also shares a wealth of experience and knowledge when you buy her dogs.

That may seem like a lot in one respect but it is such as small price for what they give in return. I will wind up spending a lot more for vets, food, toys, beds, carriers, etc. Buying a Yorkie or any pet, is not a one time expense -- it is like having a baby -- you will pay for the next 18 years (if you're lucky!)

My first Yorkie was only $600 and was the light of our life. She did not have perfect Yorkie characteristics and would have never made the show ring -- but she won our hearts like no other. We miss her a lot. I have since found out that she came from pretty much a puppy mill type breeder. She had some health issues but still she was a loving addition to our family. So, price alone will not tell if your dog will be what you want.

This time around, I would like to have at least one litter of puppies and I made sure to get pedigrees that needed to be continued along with making sure they came from the right type of atmosphere. Now -- the rest is up to us! And we have a lot of love and attention to give! Good luck on your own quest!

It is totally up to the breeder and what people agree to pay for that breeders puppies.

Good job Debra. I'm just getting started in breeding and there are people out there who think your crazy for asking over $1000 for a dog, but I feel that you get what you pay for.

My neighbor and I bought Yorkie puppies at the same time. I did a lot of looking before I found the right puppy. I spent $1000 for Roxi and my neighbor only spent $500. Now we live in a town of 400 people so my neighbor had to go all over telling how she only spent half as much and got the same dog as me. Well when the dogs were each right at a year old you people couldn't beleave that they were the save breed. Roxi has really nice staight, silky hair, nice sized and erect ears, a really pretty face, compact body, she looks very Yorkie. My neighbors dog didn't have any of these traits.

I know that alot of breeders out there also show their dogs which adds to the value of the pups (if the parents show well).

We will be selling our puppies pretty soon and there is just so much to consider when pricing them. Both of our parent dogs are very "Yorkie" looking Yorkies, both have great health, puppies (so far) have been healthy, the puppies should stay around 4 lb, they are played with all day (I have a daycare in my home and we take them out about every two hours and play with them--no one gets to pick them up, then my kids play with them in the evenings), The litter is registered APR (which makes them not worth as much as AKC), and both parents are Champions (APR). We are going to go with $1500 for the girls and $1200 for the boy. We are not willing to ship them, but will fly with them just about anywhere. Do you think this is a fair price?

I guess it will depend on what the market will bear in your area. I have not seen any APR registered Yorkies for sale here. I would see what others are asking for "America's Pet Registry" or "American Purebred Registry" Yorkies (whichever may apply) and then try to stay comparable. I just do not know much about either of them except one of the APRs registers mixed breed puppies -- calling them hybrids.

Okay I was just curious so I went to the American Pet Registry Inc. website (aprpets.org) and looked up the breeds they recognize, and they state that they only register purebreed dogs out of registered parents. So that one don't register the hybrids.

Range is 700-2500. Location and quality determines price.

APRI isn't as high on standards like AKC, I wouldn't purchase an APRI dog because they accept in the beginning unregistered dogs,and register them if they look like the breed stated by person registering the dog then of course their offspring would be registered as a pure bred dog, so you could get a yorkie that is in fact a yorkie, because the orig. dogs qualities have been bred out. I just don't trust APRI

Where do you come up with they register unregistered dogs? There might be people who try. This is a quote from their web site "APRI does not register cross breeds, animals without prior registration as purebreeds or mongrels."

I went to my local pet store in our mall and bought a puppy the lady told me in the store that apri had been around as long as akc and was equally respected, I got home and researched apri online and got some info and found out you could register a dog through them with out prior registaition(not now, just in the beginning) that is how they started registering dogs in the beginning of their registry, I don't remember where I found that out,but apri hasn't been around long. Not trying to offend anyone. sorry to be off topic
