How much weight should newborns gain? You are all so helpful. How much weight should a newborn gain each day? Will their be days when they don't gain? Yesterday I had one that weighed 5 oz and the other three weighed 6 oz. Today they each weigh just a little over that. None of them have lost any but they haven't gained much either. Is 5 and 6 oz a good start? |
My pups usually are born around 4 ounces. As long as they are not losing weight they are fine. I weigh at least 2 times a day. They usually do gain a little each day, but some stay the same for a day. It's hard to know if you're weighing on an empty belly or full belly so the weights can vary. Most of mine usually gain about 1/2 ounce a day, but have a 2 days in the week where they might stay the same. They should double or almost double their birth weight by one week old. |
Thanks Lacy's mom!! |
My pups usually gain a few "tenths" of an ounce a day... I weigh them daily at around the same time. Best of luck with your little ones!!!:) |
Initially my puppies gain alot of weight. Usually almost doubling it in the first week.......... equaling about 1/2 oz a day. If they are born at 4 ozs, they are usally at 7 1/2 oz to 8 ozs the first full week weight. SOme puppies keep it up too. They gain alot of weight 2-4 ozs every week until week 5-6. Then you may see some tampering off. But I do have a few puppies who just keep gaining at the same rate.......and they are usually bigger at 8-10 lbs. That is just my experience with my own dogs. |
