Male pup around female in heat I've purchased my male (Brodie) to use as my own stud. (I've previously used stud service up until now) My question is he's 10 months old. Do I need to worry about him being around my female who is in heat right now. I think I've decided to take some time off and not breed thru the winter months. When I'm not at home my husband cares for them, letting them outside...etc.... (together) Isn't he still too young? They should be fine, right? He wears belly bands in the house, but just outside is my concern. |
I would be careful if I were you ,I'd say he would manage the job no problem |
I wouldn't leave them alone, even with a belly band....where there is a will there is a way!!!!:) |
I agree! He has already gone through puberty at 10 months. I would not leave them alone. |
male Worrying never stopped a male from breeding with a bitch in heat...KEEP HIM TOTALLY AWAY FROM HER....I have known many males sire litters at 7 months and on... |
Thanks everyone for your responces. I had bought him with the plan to breed him , so it won't be upsetting if it did happen, but I just thought I'd take some time off (going back and forth about it) and was wondering if I'd even need to worry about it this time around. At this point he's not even paying attention to her in that way. She is at day 10 today. He'd rather agrivate and pester my other male! LOL So I just assumed he wasn't ready. Hubby lets them out in our fenced in area if he gets home before me.......that was a concern. |
I have a friend whos 7 month old male is now a daddy. He figured it out pretty quickly and it happened in a matter of minutes |
Well after going over and over in what I want to do and after talking it over with my husband I think I decided to go ahead with the breeding. If we wait another 6-8 months for her next heat that will be a summer litter, which will limits us as to what we can do. (no vacations...etc....) So I am going to go ahead with the breeding. However! He just shows no "humping" behavior AT ALL. I first noticed her starting to bleed (brownish) on Oct 3. Friday was day 10 and today day 11. She is deffinatly "standing" for him. Putting her tail to the side and sticking it all out there for him. He hasn't done a thing. Advice anyone??? I have no experience with a stud. I've always took my females to a stud owner and they handled it. |
I seperated them for a few hours today and just put them back together. He's smelling her like crazy, but absolutly no humping of anything. And she is MAJORLY flagging him like you wouldn't beleive. Even standing there completely still just waiting. And he's doing NOTHING! Today is day 11. Can anyone help with this??? |
Bump bump!!! |
here is one of my tricks.....give him and her a bath. my last stud job, the female was flagging but would not let kirby enter. so i gave them both a bath. of course, they both ran around like mad dogs but it happened very quickly. i did it this way 4 times and each time it worked (for me) |

I also must add that I thought he was 10 months old but he's actually 9 months old. Born 01/19/06. |
