Good luck. |
I was just wondering how old is Dexter? If he's not a puppy and he's gone through the "cycle" with a female before, he just is running on automatic for now. Hopefully in time he'll forget what it was like to be a boy and just ignore her the next time. August wasn't that long ago for him to have all his hormones in check, so it may be just a case of leftover feelings... |
You could have his testosterone level checked. It could be just like Yorkiegal suggested, just a prelearned behavior, but I have also heard of a piece of the ovary in a female being left or a vet being unable to locate the undescended testical and not advising the owner that it remains. |
I did a quick search and it sounds like this isn't that uncommon. I even came across information that said they could actually tie (but wouldn't become pregnant) so not to leave an inheat female and neutered male unattended because injury could occur to either dog if this was to occur and no one was supervising. I've had a neutered male, but I didn't have any unspayed females at the time. Now I have an intact male and intact female so I wasn't aware of this. |
You didn't mention his age, but it is not unusual for youngsters, even neutered ones to react to a bitch in heat. He is mostly reacting because she smells different. Often as they mature and age it will lessen. |
hi all Dexter is 15 months old i know that the undescended testicle was removed they had to cut his tummy open to get it out before surgery i could feel it so it was easily found by the vet, i hope he soon gets over this reaction because at the moment he is obsessed |
Dougal still does this - he's been neutered for over a year. He was entire when Dixie came into her first season but I decided not to breed them and got him neutered. He still has his urges - but at least Dixie doesn't get covered in a sticky mess anymore! :D ;) I find that it's the best way to tell when Dixie's coming into heat!:D :p |
You can take away the things that produce the sperm but that isn't going to stop their urges. They are still males. |
