When do you give the puppies their first bath? Or do you do a sponge bath if they need it? If so what age do you start that? Thank You |
I only wipe off very young ones when needed. I'd say a first "real" bath probably not until 6 weeks old. When you do, make sure you dry them completely and don't let them get a chill. Also make sure you don't hold the blow dryer too close and unknowingly burn their skin. In addition, make sure it isn't too far back and blowing cooler air on them. Extremely important that they don't catch a chill. |
Try an unscented baby wipe...works like a charm. I believe I bathed our last litter at about 4 or 5 weeks and immediately wrapped them in a warm (not hot) towel from the dryer, rubbed them down good, and they were dry in minutes. |
I wait until about six weeks and am very careful not to get any water into their ears and then make sure they are completely dry and then cuddle with them on a heating pad until they stop shivering. |
I wait until mine are about 6 weeks old. Especially when they start eating "real food" because they can tend to be "little piggies" and get it all over.... I also make sure that they are completely dry and run my fingers through their hair to make sure that they are dry next to the skin. Alot of times they look dry on the top of their coat but when you run your fingers through their hair, it feels damp at the base of the hair. Jan:aimeeyork |
