A good breeder??????? Okay guys this is so scary. I was just reading the For Sale and Wanted ads, and I came across this one title Looking for a Beautiful Yorkie in VA (sorry I'm stupid on how to make a link to this). anyway this lady was looking for a breeder and then later post that she found one and was picking up the puppy the next day. Okay, the next day she posts and says that she got her puppy and it is 7 weeks old:mad: I told her she needs to be really careful with him and to probably not take him out a whole lot until he has at least had another set of shots. This just drives me completely nuts. I know a lot of you, along with myself, bust our butts to try and make the best possible puppies and then there is someone like this who sells them at 7 weeks. You know that this is just a person in it for the $ and can't possibly care about the dogs. Sorry to go on and on. It just really pisses me off. |
I know where you are coming from........it's not fair to those of you who care far more and beyond than people like these. Then again, I am not a breeder BUT have been on the search for over a year. I have committed myself to education. I read and ask questions. You have to be a responsible buyer as well. |

Having a six-week-old litter myself, I can't imagine. They do have their teeth and are eating food, but still, that just seems a bit harsh to me. Besides, I like having them around.:D |
I have had many deposits before puppies are 6 weeks old...........its not if they are sold its when you release them that is important. Bottom line.........in Illinois it is against the law to sell them before 8 weeks. and a good breeder keeps them longer then that, if its for the good of the puppy. I used to routinely release all my puppies at 8 weeks and they have done very well. ..............BUT after advise from a few well respected & very educated breeders I have went to 10 weeks being a better fit............Highly recommended is 12 weeks and really is what they have recommended....(Im getting closer!.....lol) So Im always listening folks! Research has been done on age release and puppies tend to do better if released at an older age. Fem, Kim from Oregon is one of my biggest convincers this is what is best. She deserves alot of credit for her sincere effort to help people and her class about handling issues she feels are very important. |
I understand getting deposits and having pups spoken for before then, but this pup was actually picked up. It's also against the law in my state for a pup to change ownership before 8 weeks. I think it's always a good idea to keep them until they at the very least get their second set of shots. I'm a very firm beleiver in 10 to 12 week before getting rid of the smaller Yorkies. |
Another thing to keep in mind is that these people are probably not experienced with Yorkies. I have bred Poodles and Cockers. These are hardier breeds and can go younger than Yorkies. When I first found out that Yorkies needed to stay with their mothers until they were 12 weeks old I was shocked. :eek: I haven't bred dogs in 20 years and things seemed to have changed a WHOLE lot! :confused: I know there are a lot of people out there who don't know that any puppy needs to stay longer with their mothers than 6 weeks, that there are things to be learned that 6 weeks is just to young to know. I will tell you this, too, if it weren't for the internet and sites like this, I would probably still be selling babies too young for their own good. People who sell Yorkies NEED to know that 3#'s or 3 months is a critical time for Yorkies, that this is the time their blood suger is at it's worst. I try to tell everyone who asks anything about breeding their females. Sylvia |
I, myself, dont think everyone who sells puppies really young are greedy or uncaring. Some, Im sure ARE without a doubt, but others just plain dont know any better. You really dont know until you talk to them. |

One of the best products for ear mites is revolution. I had a problem with it once. Earmites are stubborn too. It works very very well. It also kills fleas and is a heartgard..........but plz dont use it on pregnant females. I truly believe it causes birth defects in pregnant females. |
